HQ: The 'Ready Lounge'

Nimbus briefly glances at Maddy. She could retort, considering the other woman not only made a comparison that, if she'd paid any attention at all, obviously doesn't apply, but she also made this comparison and interjected herself into a conversation that wasn't even near her and clearly didn't involve her.

But she doesn't. Instead, she just turns her attention back to Ulla-Marie. Perhaps if enough people simply ignore Maddy's existence, she'll see that there are worse consequences than being punched in the face.

With a slight flick of her wrist, the sword disappears in a twinkle. "Definitely sharp. It never needs upkeep. And I can't be disarmed. Which is good, cause I don't really have all that much experience in swordfighting. It's pretty difficult to find classes on it."

A quick goes to the weapon Paladin is sharpening, then back to Scout again.

"Teleportation? That sounds fun, and useful. I wouldn't worry about a lack of weaponry. I mean, you're military. You know weapons come with all sorts of responsibility and badness."

"Neat... yes... I suppose it is." Gauntlet forces a smile, somewhat saddened at Maria's lack of understanding and glad of it at the same time. Young girls shouldnt have to think about the horrors Alex went through in recieving his augmentations.

He looks over at Nimbus as she produces a blade of light, and nods solemly at her comment about "weapons" and "responsibility"

Ulla-Maria stiffens almost imperceptibly at the unexpected intrusion into the conversation, but simply continues her discussion with Nimbus.

"It is an eminently useful ability, or at least I have found it so. Well suited to the work that I have been involved with."

She pauses a moment, and then continues, "All weapons carry with them a responsibility inherent in their usage, whether or not that responsibility is acknowledged. Thus the usage of any weapon carries consequences. Yet almost anything can be used as a weapon, and in our case, many of us are weapons in one way or another ... "

Her voice trails of as she leaves the sentence unfinished, ... hanging ...

"What of our companions here and in the field, what do you know of them?"

Nimbus just shakes her head. "Not much, really. I only got here, just before the lounge started filling up and I had to retreat due to too many people."

Turning to look at the group which she'd separated herself from, she points out the man in shining armor who is sharpening his sword. "That's Arthur Pendragon, who has been dubbed 'Paladin.' His armor and sword are pretty cool."

Then she points out the slip of darkness mingling in the group. "And that's Mr. Scares... or Gus Makesbabiescry. He's a retired nightmare, who can be invisible too, among other things. Nice to have something in common. After him, a bunch of other people showed up and conversation became harder to track."

Actually, Maddy had showed up before a bunch of other people. But Nimbus is a charitable person who prefers to let people make bad impressions on their own, without the aid of someone recounting their deeds.

"It's really crowded..." After scrutinizing the crowd for a moment, she points out Marie. "I don't remember her name, but she talks to spirits.

With a yawn, Maddy leaps to her feet. "Damn it, I'm BORED! Bored, bored, bored, bored, bored--BORED!" She blinks. "Okay, who's up for a quick trip to the Rec Rooms, eh? Have a little throwdown, maybe? Get the agro out? Show off our fancy dance steps? Eh? Eh? Eh?"

Ron looks from Maddy to Maria, "That sounds a lot like VooDoo" he says with a shrug, "But that's a Haitian thing, I don know much about it"
"Well, voodoo does have a lot of shamanistic aspects to it, so it's very similar. But they tend to call things differently. I'm not sure if the various 'object' spirits I can talk to are similar enough to voodoo loa that I could talk with them. Different traditions and all that. "

"Yes, technology is fascinating. The spirits that inhabit it have a closer resemblance to mankind then the more primal elemental spirits. It's probably why my spirits take the form they do, even if they started out as elemental spirits. They're still upset about that I might add." She doesnt seem to notice the almost sad smile on Gauntlet's face, but she has a completely different way of looking at technology then he does. That her spirit manifestations take a similar 'look' probably doesnt help matters.

Marie smiled at mention of her name. "Talk to spirits, inhabited by spirits, and I'm a pretty decent dancer too, but that comes with the territory."

Scout listens intently to Nimbus, as if she is making mental notes whilst Nimbus speaks. During the conversation her brows furrows and she tilts her head slightly to the side as if in thought, but she says nothing until Nimbus has finished speaking. She muses, "A varied mix of talents indeed ... a legend, a living nightmare, and a spirit shaman. I wonder what more the world will bring?"

She turns to look back at Marie as the young woman speaks. She listens, then asks softly across the table "Inhabited by spirits?"

Gauntlet cocks an eyebrow as Maria is distracted by some of the other conversations in the room and takes a moment finish loading his internal weaponry, emptying out the ammunition box he was carrying in.

He frowns slightly at Maddy's request for a "throwdown," but says nothing as he finishes recalibrating his arms with the toolkit he brought with him.

Maddy glances at Gauntlet, adjusting her glasses. As she does so the slight purple glow that surrounds her flares up several degrees. "Jeez--what makes you such a gloomy gus? You one of those 'mourning the lost humanity you can never have' types?" She shrugs. "Trust me--it's overrated. I'll take freakdom any day of the week, including Sundays and federal holidays."

Gauntlet snarls at Mddy, "Who are you to be telling me what is like to lose humanity, little girl?"

Gauntlet is visibly working to restrain himself. He calmly (feigned) sets down the large pliers he was holding on the table.

"I was awake when they took from me my arms. I watched as robots tore from me my own flesh. I felt everything... everything as they bolted these machines onto my bones, and as the machines inside me tore through my insides, rewiring me from inside out."

He clenches his eyes for just a moment and the slight tremble running though him ceases.

"And now... do you know what I can feeling with these hands? Nothing... not cool water through my fingers, not the soft skin of woman, nothing..."

Gauntlet forces a chuckle, "But I am strong now, and I suppose to you is all that would be counting. I am thinking one who made me like this thought same thing. Small price to pay, da?"

Gauntlet turns away from Maddy, but adds over his shoulder, "Be asking those who had their gifts forced on them like me, what price was sometime. Maybe it would be dulling that sharp tongue of yours. Maybe would be teaching you some courtesy..."
