HQ: The 'Ready Lounge'

"Sometimes. There's things that can be done with light that don't involve glowing or shining. Like bending light around things."

With that, she disappears from sight completely, the light bent around her to render her invisible. Her voice comes from the space where her head used to be.

"Of course, I only know a couple. I'm hoping to gain more versitility with it."

Gus makes a delighted sound, and his grin broadens. Reflecting Nimbus' discomfort with attention, several eyes open on Gus' cheeks, forehead, and chin and begin looking independently around the room. Gus doesn't seem to notice.

"I am... not good with the science, but I am understanding." Gus strikes a mildly theatrical pose. "You are of light," he says, disappearing quite suddenly, "I am of shadow."

Paladin looks around as he finds himself seemingly alone in the room suddenly. As alone as he feels inside. Getting a drink, he sits himself down away from where the others had been. Before sitting though, he gingerly touches the seat to ensure that neither Nimbus or Mr. Scares is sitting there invisibly. After sitting, he removes his helmet and lets it fall with clunk to the floor beside his seat. Draining his drink quickly, he lays his head back, closes his eyes, and tries to relax for the first time since leaving here on his first mission.

"Neat." She smiles, then realizes that nobody can see her smiling. Movement attracts her attention, and she watches Arthur wander off. See, this is why she is shy around people. So many different things offend people or just upset them, that she is afraid to do or say anything. And whenever she tries, it generally ends up ike this. Makes her want to stop trying. Her own senses of compassion and empathy get in the way.

Becoming visible again, she motions toward the seating area, indicating the invisible Gus should join them. Removing her uniform from the arm of the couch, she sits down on one of the chairs.

"So... anyone have an idea what the missions are like?"

"From what I've heard in my short time here, the only thing the missions have in common is that they are all different." Paladin says as he raises his head and opens his eyes. "One team dealt with an earthshaking bank robber, another handled rampaging robots on a bridge, and my first mission involved hacking at zombies created by a madman using magic artifacts in an attempt to remake the middle east into ancient Sumeria. So it seems that anything and everything is possible now. We shall have to wait and see what occurs next that requires our services."

Mister Scares appears uncomfortably close to Paladin's side. "Apologies," the large creature says sincerely, "am not meaning to be rude. I am... still learning rules, my own self."

"You have been out fighting the mindless dead? Fascinating. Is more common fear, in recent decades."

"Does this not bother you," Gus asks "This waiting for terrible things? Should not people go forth and face fears?"

Paladin turns to the suddenly apparent Mr. Scares without flinching. "Should they? I know not. But here, our job is to be prepared for when the next disaster comes so that we may fight to save and help those in need. As for the 'mindless' dead, they were not nearly as mindless as I would have liked. They attempted to divest me of my weapon at every opportunity it seemed. Thank the gods they are naught but dust now and their master is locked away."

Mister Scares' face grows long as he talks to Arthur, and shadows gather at his chin like a black beard. He is smiling, but in spite of the kindness in Gus' orange eyes, the face reminds Arthur of his son, Mordred.

"Hmm. Is interesting. I am hardly expert on real monsters, but know imaginary ones well. Important to know the two... do not match, yes?"

"Of course, monster who is smart... perhaps not monster, always. Or not monster forever."

Gus shrugs, but it's obviously an important topic to him.

She doesn't know much of monsters. Instead of adding anything to the conversation, she stays quiet, leaning back and watching the armored man and the grinning shadow. It's her way of getting to know people and situations... watching quietly, listening.
