HQ: The 'Ready Lounge'

Maddy's eyes snap open. "I joined the Resolutes to kick ass professionally, instead of on an amateur basis. Baiting you, Sunshine, is more of a hobby." Her eyes snap shut. "Now please be quiet. I'm trying to find my center."

"So she admits to be nothing more than thug." Gauntlet shrugs with resignation and moves to another part of the room. He regretted becoming embroiled in such a petty argument in front of everyone, but Maddy's poor attitude had tapdanced on his already frazzled nerves.

Gauntlet moves to one of the larger, currently unoccupied sofas where he reclines comfortably, resting his large metal arms across the back of the thick plush furniture, letting his blood pressure slowly return to something sane.

Ulla-Maria extends her hand towards Marie and introduces herself, "I am Colonel Ulla-Maria Wallenius, but my colleagues call me Scout."
Marie thought a bit. "Well, it's not that they're completely unfamiliar with technology. They've seen it progress. It's just never been something they've manifested as before. But yeah, they like to blame my dad. And my upbringing. It's unladylike for a girl to be fascinated with the more military aspects of stuff." Marie rolled her eyes again. "They sound like my grandmother, really. Probably why they get along so well. Anyways, they have the same idea you do. Usually how they manifest is a combination of their natures and the 'hosts' nature. My nature is just...different from their usual hosts. Lucky me, huh?"

She shook Scout's hand with a smile. "You can call me Marie. I'm a bit more comfortable with that name, although my code name is Mecha Musume. You can blame me for that wierd sounding bunch of syllables, but it sounded cool when I first filled out the paperwork. "

Scout shakes Marie's hand, "Nice to meet you Marie. ... I admit Mecha Musume is a bit of a mouthful. You had a military upbringing? Where abouts did you grow up?"

After a few moments, Gauntlet hears a deep voice speaking from the shadows near him. He didn't see Gus walk over to him, but Gus is there just the same. To Gauntlet's surprise, the words are in Russian, even if the accent is slightly strange.

"She had no right to say those things, друг," the ugly face says sincerely.

"Various places. Korea, Japan, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey. Typical 4 year rotation thing. I dont think I've lived anywhere longer then 4 years until I hit college." She grinned. "Unless you count 'On a military base' as where abouts."

((ooc: i actually cannot speak or read russian, heheheh, i've been using a translator to throw in the odd word or phrase, just to add flavor to my speech patterns))

Gauntlet blinks at the shadowy form Gus presents. He sits up from his reclined position and smiles.

{in russian} "Well... perhaps. She was right about one thing. I may be a bit sensitive about what happened to me. But she seemed intent on getting on someone's nerves and she managed to hit a sore spot with me. Hopefully a little more time with the resolutes will teach her to be more considerate. I need to learn not to let such things bother me."

He gestures to a chair across from him.

{in russian} "Please, have a seat. It's been so long since I had a chance to speak with someone from my homeland. Can't place your accent though, what region are you from?"

(OOC: I don't have any Russian worth mentioning, myself. Babelfish, for all its drawbacks, is my friend.)

Gus looks pleased to receive such a warm greeting, but looks slightly embarrassed as well.

{Continuing in Russian} "Having a point is no excuse for rudeness. I think she likes to start fights with big men. Prove who is the alpha dog, prove she is not afraid, yes?"

Gus takes a seat.

"I hate to disappoint, but I am not truly Russian. I am... good with languages, and have visited many times. My accent..." He chuckles heartily, "My accent is embarrassing accident from previous job."

Aware of the strangeness of both Gauntlet's arms, and his own, Gus extends a long arm in greeting.

"Gustav Makesbabiescry. Please. Call me Gus."

Scout smiles back, "Perhaps 'On a military base' is sufficient. I suppose military bases are not so different around the world, .. at least those that I have been stationed at or visited."

Scout pauses a moment, then tilts her head slightly and asks "Do you know much about how operations are run here?"

{in english} "A pleasure... Gus." Gauntlet grasps Gus's hand in greeting. His movements are careful and calculated so as to avoid exerting painful pressure with his hands, but the strength held within the machinery bolted to Gauntlet's shoulders is obvious, just restrained.

Gauntlet hesitates a moment before inquiring further, "Your name... is being unusual. Sounds more like title or job description. What was previous job you are speaking of? (he asks politely) In Russia my family worked construction business. Not always easy in post-breakup of USSR, small business I mean."

Ron moves over to Scout and Marie "Forgive me, but I couldn't help overhearing ya. As far as I can tell we wait for someting to happen, then we're breifed and respond. At least, that's what happened when Guantlet, Monkey Wrench and myself went out. "
