Humans? Dire humans?

Anyone write up humans yet? They aren't in the MM, after all (talk about an oversight!)

How about dire humans? (Neanderthals, I guess...)

Humans (like the other humanoid races) wouldnt really qualify for the Dire template (though as DM you could do it if ya really wanted to). The Dire template is basically made for animals and things like that. Hence, no dire elves, dwarves, etc. Though again, you could do them if ya wanted to.

As for statting humans (akin to the other humanoids in the MM), just stat out a 1st-level warrior with avg stats. All the humanoids with at least 1 HD in the MM are considered 1st-level warriors (check the descriptions), so statting out a human warrior would work.

Dire humans

Well, I've always understood the dire critters to be basically the prehistoric versions, so it'd be interesting to have dire versions of humanoids. The idea of dire dwarves, elves, etc. hadn't really ocurred to me- but I can see dire elves as being like the Wolfriders in Elfquest (if you're familiar with that great old comic).

Hmmm... dire kobolds? Closer to their dragon kin?

Erica's dire template does have something on it about affecting humanoids ... I think it's kind of a curse, like lycanthropy

One of the earlier versions of the Dire Template I made had an option where a rabies-like magical disease (the Dire Curse) caused animals, and even humanoids, to become Dire Creatures. That was too much of a break from the original concept of Dire animals, so I dropped it when we were re-editing the Dire Template for publication in the Tome of Horrors.

doh!
