Additions to my own list:

5. Be sure to use true seeing on all potential mates. They might be a vampire/evil robot/incan mummy/praying mantis.

6. Always back up your rarest spells to floppy disk.

No matter how much the odds are stacked against you, you don't need to worry about death, unless your contract is up for renewal.

(IE: Most DM's a real babies and won't kill your character, less you tell them you won't be able to make it too the game anymore)
