Is this a "hunter" in terms of gaining food, or a "hunter" in terms of hunting down enemies? If it is in terms of hunting down enemies, I don't see why create the class, when the ranger class exists. If it is a "hunter" in terms of hunting for food. It should be Preferred Game rather then Preferred Enemy.

Just my thoughts.

both. barb are not all berserers, bounty hunters, and game hunters are not found in the game. This class mods are there to fix this lack.

Bounty hunters don't always hunt the same type of opponent, so I don't think a preferred enemy stat would do them all that well, unless they limited themselves to only hunting down orc bounties, or something of that sort. If that were to be the case, I would still say a ranger, or ranger prestige class would work well for it.

As for a game hunter, I think there are some other neat abilities that could be added to make it more fun to hunter for food.

But that is just me, and honestly I think a hunterer/gatherer class could have a pretty good place if you have a campaign based on nomads, barbarians, or something of that nature.

I didn't add any new ability to this class, so it's harder to be unbalanced. Out of DD, i never saw any mention of a spellcasting ranger... i don't like it...

Ok, a bounty hunter is not specialist. But DD PC are more than usual npc bounty hunter... player classes... are more.(anyway, there is no npc rogue class...)

Well I am not saying that a barbarian without rage but with a preferred enemy is a bad idea, I am just thinking it could be done more uniquely. Rather then worrying about balance issues, I like to create a class that is unique enough to stand on it's own. If the class could be created by being a ranger/barbarian, then I don't see a place for it. However, you have some definite ideas of what you want, and I think some of those ideas have no form in the current d&d rules. So let's put some of those ideas together, and come up with a really good bounty hunter/hunter character class.

I think we could allow an ability to choose a path, one path being a hunter/gatherer, the other path being a bounty hunter.

For the hunters I would suggest that instead of fast movement they would gain the druid's Trackless step, and Woodland stride as abilities.

For the bounty hunters, I would add Gather Information, and Intimidate to their class skill list.

This is just a start, tell me what you think?

So I was thinking of an ability. Not sure how useful it would be.

Hide in the wind: Whenever combat is initiated and the character is in a woodlands setting, roll a wilderness lore check DC 15. If the character passes the check, then the character is considered to be downwind if there is any wind. This ability reflects the hunters attention to things such as the scent ability of animals.

Thoughts?
