Hunting down a Rog/Clr(travel) (New:We got 'im!)

If you are relentless in pursuing the theif now, the DM may be forced to abandon planned upcoming adventure(s) along with their rewards. I recommend considering that before your group gets too worked up over a single stolen item.
errr.....not to pick or anything, but this seems to "meta-gaming" for me.

If someone steals from my friends, there must be repercussions for their actions. If the DM meant this to be a "surgical removal=> fire and forget"....well, that's not what's gonna happen.

Kalendraf has a point though. If you can't scry him, and can't teleport, and have no idea where he is, your chances of finding him, much less ambushing him, are virtually nil.

Skimming through the thread again, you have virtually no chance of finding him, unless you know something about him that you failed to mention. So you might as well forget it.

Also, it sounded like the rogue got what he wanted, so he probably won't be back.

On the off chance that he does come back, since he can scry and teleport and you can't, he will come back on his terms. So he'll be fully prepped. He might bring friends or cohorts with him.

There is a chance that instead of shield being up, he has/had a brooch of shielding. Not much difference, but it might make the worries of his potential wizard levels pointless.

My 2 cents...

My goodness, has it been 6 months since I last posted here? wow...

Anyway, Zepherus here ( aka Wiz9 Necromancer mentioned throughout this thread)...a few points to consider:
1. I have access to Teleport ( albeit once a day )
2. The DM is "sitting in" for a session or two for a change of pace ( I'm the usual DM ), so any future adventures for him will be far enough down the road that it could be planned around ( Yeah, I know, Nail...metagaming ).

So, if we go after him ( and I'm all for it ), what can I do with a one shot teleport? I think we can take him...

Yes I agree with Zeph.

"Did someone say gold? No!? rewards!? Ok what were we talking about again?"

Although the tried and true dungeon crawl is fun and exciting, the whole wilderness ambush was breath of fresh air. Altough it goes against my Roguish principles, lets abandon all richest and rewards for REVENGE!! As far as rewards go, a ring of invisibility would go with my outfit.... ;)

I would mention that if the rogue had 1 more turn things would be very different. Not to say he would be dead, but I do/did have a plan, that I have not mentioned yet, so I can suprise the DM, and I was 1 person away from trying it last game.

Anywho, I agree with Zeph, lets get revenge.

Hey there! Nice to see you back!

...That's right: I had forgotten our trusty Wiz 9 could teleport (slaps forehead). And really, we could probably get our Druid to scry for us, hmmmm? :)

Alright: we need to identify him first. I'm still thinking we could go to Dyvers and get that done with a few "Gather Information" checks by our sneaky Rog 9. Perhaps a Divination or Commune spell will help us narrow the field; several of the above suggestions in that area look good.

silentspace: While it's true the Bad Invisible Rogue (B.I.R!) could be hard to find, I'm hoping the DM doesn't just wave his meta-game hand and say: "You can't find him. He's too good." Not only would that be untrue...it would also be boring. And this is a game, after all.

We've got several advantages over the B.I.R.
  • We have four spell casters to his one.
  • He probably doesn't expect us to come after him.
  • We probably have something he still wants (the magic item he stole was rather minor), so he's probably coming back.
  • Us being on the offensive puts him at a relative disadvantage; surprise is his key weapon, and attacking him takes that weapon away.

Now, of course the DM could meta-game this, and make him invulnerable. If that's what happens.....I will be dissappointed.

Good point.

I *think* that it was a shield spell, however. That rogue was awefully hard to hit. AC 26 or so. ;)
