Only problem with Scry:

Player's Handbook said:
If the save succeeds, you can’t attempt to
scry on that subject again for at least 24
hours.
So if he makes that save, he knows...and he has 24 hours to prepare.

Nah, readying melee attacks this way is pointless. Too easy to counter that.
Tripping or grappling is much more useful.
Agreed. However, in either case the Rog/Clr(travel) can use his Dex, which I'm guessing is high. So our Ftr grappling or tripping isn't a slam-dunk. I think she's better off doing raw damage, two-handed style, as quickly as possible.

Now, my Clr's summoned monsters, OTOH, are quite good at grappling, and are size large, and have Improved Grab, and......

I know this will demonstrate my nerdy obsessive/compulsiveness, but: I've got a "combat utility comparison" sheet for each Summon Monster spell. Hp, AC, special abilities....it really helps in the middle of combat, when you really need a certain kind of help.

Invisible rogue on the ground? Large Scorpion with tremorsense.

Spell caster that need to be grappled, right now? Giant Crocodile.

Rog 4/Clr 7(travel) invisible, flying, and about to teleport? No idea. :)

:D

Anyways, yes if he knows of the attempts to scry him, he can prepare, but he really doesn't know for what to prepare. And he also doesn't know when you'll try next. You always have this advantage, of knowing the exact time, when you do it.

Bye

...then that's what we'll do.

I just gamed with my DM (different game: he a player, I the DM) last night. After the meeting he and I talked about our up-coming game (next Wed, Apr 7!) and the invisible rogue. Here's an email description of the supposed Rog 4/Clr 7:

My DM said:
He's elven, male, average height (5') and weight (110 or so)..
very non-descript in appearance, he also was wearing the sort
of clothing that you'd see on a good many people in any
particular town.. (in other words, he blends in very well)

He was not wearing any obvious armor, but you did see him
wearing a cloak, boots, and a backpack. Also his belt
was clearly designed to carry multiple scrolls for easy
access (think short scroll cases with one end open), and you
saw quite a few scrolls there. he also had a bandoleer across
his chest, and there was a small number of potions. He was
also wearing gloves, so if there were any rings, you couldn't
see them with the time you had.

He was wielding a rapier. There was also a quiver and bow
attached to his backpack which you never saw him use.

In addition to the description, he seemed to think it important to ask what the night watch order would be the next day.

Great. :p

What about creating a sleeping shelter at night, while on the road? I was thinking about using Wall of Stone.

Leomund's Secure Shelter is very useful. I would definitely recommend getting that spell in the wizard's spellbook.

For those who are interested: We play tonight!

My fellow party members have suggested that we don't "attack on sight", but rather "negotiate/try to make a friend".

....okay.........we'll see how that goes. Either way, we're gettin' our magic item back. :]

Personal note: my email is on the fritz...so I've been unable to send emails out.....that's why y'all haven't gotten anything from me.

Hope you get this before you play.

DON'T KILL HIM if you want your item back. If he is a rogue he may have sold it, may have been employed to get the item and you need to interrogate him.
