Okay, show's over...nothing to see here...

Don't know how this posted twice...so I'll just delete this one, and leave the second one!

Okay, show's over...nothing to see here...

Well, game night has passed, and let me say...it rocked! I'll let Nail give the "blow by blow", since he started this thread, but in a nutshell, we threw a couple of things at the DM that he wasn't expecting...at that's always fun!

So, hopefully, Nail will be posting soon, to end everyone's suspense!

Mission Accomplished!!!!

That alone made this thread worthwhile. :)
Thanks, everyone! (Special thanks to Thanee, FullTinCan, and Silentspace!)

We took lots of great ideas from this thread...ENWorld boards are awesome!....and I have to admit, several of you finally convinced me not to "get medieval" on the Rog/Clr. By the end of the session, no one had been killed....not even pesky invisible, silenced Rog/Clrs who steal our magic items late at night and then manage to escape.......

Nope. I don't hold a grudge. I'm a [Good] cleric, really! :heh:

......I'll tell the story of what happened in our session in a bit; I'm giving a geology lecture in a moment, so I'll have to wait.

As an aside: We're now "allowing" our DM to read this thread. He's been telling me how hard it's been o stay out. Thanks for your restraint, Videssian!

Fingers (our trusty halfling rouge)

In Character: (thought would be cooler, sorry about the names can't think of them all of a sudden)

Well the adventure started out with the cleric and wizard doing alot of whispering and discussions amongst themselves. I got to fly around the area before we teleported to manifest. I think we were suppose to be looking for the invisiable guy, but flying was way too cool, but the cleric was mumbling all morning so I think he was up to somthing. Anyway once in manifest we stayed with some wizard types. I got a stern, and uncalled for, lecture from The Wizard about walking around with my hands in my pockets at all times. So since they were being fuddy duddies, I went out and did magic (ie: Sleight of Hand/Perform) tricks for a few silvers.

When we finished in manifest we returned to our keep. Once there the wizard and cleric again huddled around doing stuff. I got bored, and it seemed that Alein (our sor.) was following me quite a bit, so I filled his spell component pouch with sand, un-beknownest to him of course, and we played some card games.

OCC: Then the action started, and I will leave that to Nail. But It took alot of prep work before we even started with the baddies. Good work by our trusty wizards, and cleric.

A most interesting read this thread is! *grins*

I'm happy that the players really enjoyed themselves.. that made it worthwhile..

They pulled some stuff I sure wasn't expecting.. somehow it never occured to me that the party would have access to Teleport or Scry/Detect Scry, though it should have! The game was a lot of fun... and wrecked some plans! :) I also accepted Nail's interpretation of how the Travel domain power worked (after rereading it myself), that significantly altered things..

I try not to metagame, I do things that make sense in the context of the characters.. besides, it's more satisfying for me when I do overcome them, if I do! :)

I'll let Nail give the play-by-play recap.. I'm eager to see what he writes.. 'course, the party has overlooked some things... perhaps come to some incorrect conclusions.. or perhaps not! *evil grins*.. consequences, consequences.. *grins*

A very fun time!!

Glad you liked it, oh DM #3! :)

We all had a great time.....and we're looking forward to the next installment!

Here's what happened, as briefly as I can manage. To keep it brief, I'll use our PC names. Our PCs are:
  • Tieran Wiz 9
  • Taynath Clr 9 (me!)
  • Fingers Rog 8
  • Aelin Sor7/Clr1
  • Corin Ftr 9
  • "the druid" (don't know his name) Drd 6/Osteomancer 1

(The Rog/Clr we were hunting I'll call "B.I.R." (bad invisible rogue).

**********
We started the session the morning after the BIR tried to rob us. Fingers collected the BIR's blood off of his pick (heh, heh, heh!), while Tieran and I prepared our spells. At about this time our druid joined us.

After a short discussion (based, in part, on this thread!), Tieran convinced me to post-pone our quest until after he could return home and learn/copy Detect Scrying, Scry, and Dimensional Anchor. That was a good idea....but I was so ready to go after that guy....and Corin was itching for a fight. Aelin too!

As a compromise, we decided to try a "quickie" search for BIR. If I could find him today, we'd just "go git 'im". I started by casting Commune, and asking my 9 questions. I had hoped BIR would have teleported to Dyvers and stayed there; if that had been the case, I could have found his exact location with the rest of my questions....but my Commune told us he was not in Dyvers (a big city, BTW). Apparently the BIR was coming after us again, and wanted to steal more of our magical equipment. He wasn't working for the Dyvers theives guild, however. Thanks for small blessings, I guess.

Next, we tried a "quick and dirty" search on the way back to our keep. Aelin cast Fly on everyone, the druid and Tieran buffed our fighter, and I cast Invisibility Purge and Locate Object. I tried to key in on the ring that had been stolen from us, figuring the BIR would still have it...and it would lead me to him. We flew straight along our return route for several miles before the spells ended. No rogue. Sigh.

Tieran teleported us to his home, in Manifest (the main city on the Ghostwalk campaign setting). We sat around for the next three days while Teiran learned his spells. We even managed to keep Fingers out of trouble. :)

After Manifest, we returned to Brightstone Keep. Tieran had managed to secure an expensive silver mirror in Manifest; just the thing for scrying on bad guys! So everyone preped, then Teiran cast his Scry, while holding a bit of BIR's dried blood in his hands.

......wizards can be pretty creepy, if you think about it......

Tieran located BIR instantly (failed Will save!), and neither the BIR or his new (!) fighter companion noticed our scrying sensor. The BIR was actually hiding, invisible, within sight of our keep! He was apparently waiting for the right moment to come in and steal our stuff.........(we found out from our keep's guards that they had let in an old begger for a short time while we were gone; I gave them a stern lecture about that!)......Fingers agreed that the BIR was "casing" the place.

Right. Enough of that, then! :]

We preped, buffed, and teleported. Key in the prep. was an invisibility purge to neutralize that pesky Invisibility ring the BIR had. Once we appeared, Aelin readied to counterspell the BIR, while Teiran nailed him with Dimensional Anchor. Corin dashed over and wrenched the fighter/bodyguard's sword away from him. And Fingers....well, Fingers had been waiting a long time for this:

Fingers swiped the BIR's "belt o' scrolls" using Sleight of Hand!

(NOte: Boy, are the rules about how to do this confusing! We spent lots of time in friendly arguement over the topic.)

Finally, before the BIR could react, I cast Summon Monster V: a Celestial Brown Bear! And, of course, it used its Improved Grab ability when it hit him. One grappled BIR, coming right up!

Next the BIR got to react. He tried to escape using his Travel Domain (DM says: "he magically escapes the grapple!"), but found it uneffective (I said: "Uhm, sorry, but: no he doesn't. The travel domain doesn't work that way.") Heh, heh. Then he tried to cast Suggestion...but missed the Concentration check.

Too bad. ;) Within a few moments, both he and his fighter/bodyguard were pummeled/grappled into submission. Fingers really enjoyed using his sneak attack for subdual damage. Wow, was that nasty.

After the two bad guys were unconcious, we stripped 'em down and looted their stuff. We're now back in our keep, interogating them.

Nicely, of course. We are [Good], after all.

;) :heh:

Heh. With my arcane trickster I loved to do stuff like this (i.e. pickpocket some items with ranged legerdemain during combat - spell component pouches are good targets for this ;)).

Sounds like you had some fun! :D

Thanks for the update. Good to know how it turned out. Although I'm certain the BIR will be interogated and you will act on the new knowledge. Did any of your character's recognize the BIR? You may want to consider viewing him (and the fighter) with True Seeing.

Now for the old Detect thoughts/ Zone of truth combo....and hey if you got bestow curse hit him with a little wisdom relief. Follow that up with a little Charisma boost on your best intimidator and interrogate that sucker real good. :]
