If you remove body parts from a regenerating creature (like the head), they can be reattached again, but what if you just take them and store them away? The Troll might still be alive, but with his heads in the fighters backpack, can`t do much :-)

IIRC, The part about trolls being able to reatch limbs in the 2E MM also said that a troll that had lost it's head would if given enough time grow a new one.

If somebody "stored away" a troll head in a safe, for example, would the new body grow into the shape of the container? If so, troll-slayers could accumulate stackable (and quite harmless) troll cubes, maybe build a wall or a tower out of them. I see a new building material here.

I'd figure the troll's head in a box , backpack, jar, etc. Would eventually die like severed limbs do, and the troll would grow another head after awhile.

Remember, regeneration does not stop damage from suffocation or starvation.

The limbs would eventually wither and die, as would anything (head, torso, etc.) kept in a jar or cage without access to nutrients.

If you split a troll in half, which side withers and dies? which side regrows? Hmm.....that makes me wonder....slice it in half vertically (head to crotch) and see which side counts? Or do you end up with two? that could be a hassle.

Whichever side has more molecules ... but in a fantasy setting - both! :D
