I have a problem, windows on my machine got corrupted, so while i was gone my dad was going to reinstall windows, but ended up overwriting my F drive, which i moved the stuff i wanted to keep to. So i was wondering if there is any way to retrieve the stuff that was on the drive or is it a total loss. I am currently broke and unemployed so i don't really have money to spend, to retrieve the stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did he install windows on the F drive or did he just format the F drive?
If he installed windows, you're probably screwed. You can't recover anything that has been overwritten with new data, but there is a possibilty that there are some things that can still be recovered. It's not a good possibility, tho. There are some recovery tools that will be able to see what was previously written there. There's a big list of tools here (scroll down): http://www.experts-exchange.com/Storage/Q_20673277.html

I use the freeware version of the german PC Inspector File Recovery Tool which can be found here. Perhaps you have someone who can understand it or perhaps there's an english version.
It helped me recover all photos from a formatted SD-card, it's really good.

If the drive was only formatted and the partition data is still the same, chances are good, that you get your file back...
