I got a Wii!

And it's darn fun, I tell ya. Also with a young son I can actually find some nice games that we can play together with as well as letting him play alone with it (after homework, naturally).

What games have y'all gotten for your Wii, and what have you liked about them? I actually like the stock game, Wii Sports. It's a fun game, actually. I can see myself playing if for a while, which is unusual for me and stock console games. (I must admit, it has been a long time since my last console.) My son really enjoys the tennis.

I personally would love a game where you get to use the Wii controller like a sword. that would be awesome. I have Fire Emblem, which is fun, but I'd like something a bit more active.

Man the surgery for that must've been intense. But I don't want to hear about Wii's and kids in the same post, I'm sure that violates....something ;)

Seriously. Good for you, looks like fun and it has a good game line-up. Me I can't afford to get one since gas prices went up and they're pretty much impossible to find around here anyway.

Yeah, they're impossible to find around here as well. The only reason I have one is through mail order. Wal-Mart has them ready to ship, but you have to get the bundle. Which, actually, isn't that bad of a deal.

It was actually some good soul here at ENWorld that directed me to nowinstock.net. Consoles go in and out of stock within a matter of hours, if not minutes. But last Wednesday I stopped by and found both Amazon and Best Buy with consoles available. I didn't believe I'd actually get it until the UPS guy showed up at my door.

The Walmart bunle is OK if you know what you want to get, but I do Gamefly and would prefer to rent first. Really, it's the games available on the virtual console that are most appealing to me. Many, I keep hoping the Sega Genesis version of Shadowrun will show up.

As for fighting with a sword, I believe the Zelda game is what you're looking for.

Games I've liked (with links to full reviews of them if I have written them):
Zelda: Twilight Princess - Good graphicaly, though a bit easy at times. It's a great use of controls, and makes things like the bow easy(er) to use in live combat.

Mario Kart Wii - The Wii Wheel is good, but so are the other control schemes. Multiplayer on Wifi is fun but even solo play is interesting. Great for younger kids.

Metroid Prime 3: Coruption - Very good shooter/adventure game that takes advantage of the controls well. Only complaint I had was it felt a little short, but you can play in Hypermode for a challenge (I still haven't beat that mode, though I'm 98% though it).

Super Paper Mario - A kid friendly RPG/platformer. I liked it, but it has almost no replay value.

SSX: Blur - A fun Snowboarding game that uses the controls well for the most part. Can be a lot of fun, has some nice music, and is fairly casual friendly.

Games I was Meh on:
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz - Not a bad game, lots of multi-player fun, but the controls on some of the multi-player games are spotty at times (it was a release game). The single player game is fun if you like simple puzzle arcade games. If this is your cup of tea, it's a great game.

Warrio Ware - Lots of people went gaga over this, but it never thrilled me. It's a wiimote simon says/figure out the mini-game game, and can be fun to watch when playing with up to 16 players using 1 wiimote. However, I found the multi-player a little problematic as we didn't have enough time to pass the Wiimote sometimes. Very kid friendly though.

Games I've not played but would reccomend:
Super Smash Brothers: Brawl - I played Melee, and that was a great game, and Brawl has gotten great reviews.

Super Mario Brothers Galaxy - A one up on Mario 64. If you like platformers, this is supposed to be a lot of fun.

Wii Fit - If you want active, the balance board games are for you.

Other games of note:
Rayman Raving Rabids 1 & 2 - Supposedly a good mini-game collection.

We're having a ton of fun with Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

The Wii Play, that comes with a remote, has a decent air-hockey like game. Worth the $10 probably.

I'm quickly hating the Sports games. Much too simplistic and easy. My 7 year-old bowled a 200 on her second game. Yesterday I got beat my 8 year-old who runs across the room and leaps to bowl and her friend who windmills her arm and then throws. The dang tennis game is consistently confusing my forehand from my backhand.

Mario Cart was, like Sports, fun at first but is quickly wearing thin. Again, seems very easy. You'll be easily winning the first races on your second or third try. That's in multiplayer, haven't even tried the single.

I have Ultimate Alliance, haven't played much of it yet, but it's fairly similar to X-Men Legends, so it can't be bad.

The sports controls are generally sensitive, so what's likely happening is that you're jerking the controller too much to set up a swing. It may be simplistic, but that's part of the charm, particularly for a casual game. But basically, it's a tech demo of what you can do with the controller, so don't expect much from it.

Mario Kart gets harder as you play in single player, and that's where you unlock stuff. Once you "finish" single player, the online play lets you play with up to 11 other players from around the world, or other friends. You can also play in tournaments, as well trade ghosts to race against your friends in time trials.

Multi-player, I think the computer is set to 100cc, which is the medium difficulty.
