I got a Wii!

Do you like turn-based strategy RPGs? If so, Shining Force (it is definitely the daddy that spawned the Fire Emblem series if you ever played any of that)
Not quite. The original Fire Emblem game (Fire Emblem: The Dragon of Darkness and the Sword of Light) was released on the NES two years before Shining Force was released on the Genesis. As far as I am aware, Fire Emblem was the game that kicked off the entire strategy RPG genre.

I've never heard much about Shining Force before, though. It sounds interesting. If I don't end up getting Rondo of Swords for the DS soon, maybe I will get that game to tide me over until Fire Emblem DS is released (the remake of the previously mentioned original Fire Emblem).

On those notes, I guess I should say that Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for the Gamecube and its sequel Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for the Wii are both great games.

Are there community forums for the Wii where I could ask for opinions on the best RPG's? Wii.com and Nintendo.com don't seem like they're very oriented around news and community, just marketing.

Other than here, I have not found any. I do recall seeing the topic of Wii & DS RPGs come up before in this forum, so where further back there may be more info -- but I think we hit the highlights (Wii hasn't had that many RPG releases).

I'm not sure. I mostly talk about things like that over at the WotC boards' Rec Room. There is some pretty lively discussion there.

So, I downloaded Zelda 64 today from the virtual console and tried playing it. It was awkward as hell. No manual, and the in-game tutorial references the GameCube controls, which don't correspond directly to the classic controller. For instance, there's constant reference to a "Z" button, which does not seem to exist on the classic controller.

I fear I may need to now buy a Gamecube controller.

See, in Nintendo 64 virtual console games, you can't use the wiimote or nuchuk. That's the selling point of the classic controller.

A Gamecube controller won't be much better, since it has very different buttons than the N64 that Ocarina of Time was designed for. It doesn't have any of the same C buttons, for example... That is why I could never get into Ocarina of Time: Master Quest, really.

Anyways, just remember that the N64's Z button was the trigger for the left hand, just like the Nunchuck's Z and C buttons. They probably linked "Z-targetting" it to the L buttons on the Classic Controller.

Shouldn't you be able to open up the Wii Menu while playing in order to get at least a limited form of game documentation? Every Virtual Console game I have downloaded has that option, and it makes things a lot easier.

I'll check for some help again. There's a lot of stuff in the menus for Zelda--inventory and level info, for instance--so I may have missed it.
