Even monster deities get a small writeup ?

Not really a "write up", more like a basic stat block like this:

Name (Status): Great Mother (G)
Alignment: CE
Favored Weapon: Greataxe
Domains: Chaos, Death, Evil, Hatred, Strength
Symbol: Egg with an eye
Portfolios: Magic, fertility, tyranny
Worshipped By: Beholders

And that's it....

Most members of any CLASS will be NPCs. So what?

Of course there are PrCs that aren't suited for PCs. Again, So what?

My point is that from what I have seen, heard and read, Torm, Helm and Tyr are all very popular choices as patron gods for PC clerics and paladins in the Realms. Seems reasonable to me that there would be a PrC for at least ONE of them in the book.

True, these are extremely popular deities for PCs. The problem with making prestige classes for these deities is, at least in my view, that the specialty priests for each of these gods (as represented in Faiths and Avatars) is too close to the core cleric to warrant the creation of a prestige class for this book. The prestige classes are based, at least loosely, on the 2nd Edition specialty priest classes, and spending space in a book that was already cut a considerable amount to duplicate a class that is extremely close to one of the core classes seems like a waste of pages.

Certainly, there may be a place for publishing prestige classes for these deities. Faiths and Pantheons wasn't it, though, at least as far as I am concerned. I was one of those people screaming for a prestige class for at least one of these gods before the book came out, but upon seeing the direction that the book intended to take, can understand why such classes were not included.

For them, you have the Paladin base class and the Divine Champion prestige class. You could look at a class in Defenders of the Faith for them. Things like Hunter of the Dead or warpriest could do the job.

They said they wanted to replace all specialty priest by simple multiclass combinations. They found that it was not possible for some of the weirder specialist kits, and created PrC for them. For those that can be handled by simple multiclassing (often fighter/cleric, rogue/cleric or wizard/cleric), no need in wasting space.

Great mothers favored weapon

Her Weapon is NOT a great axe....IT is a mis print her weapon got switched with the deity above her ......unless of course you think that Diirinka god of evil dwarves should have bite as his favored weapon......might be cool to see a bunch of grey dwarf clerics running around biting people though. anyway thought i would clear that up for you.

I looked at it at my FLGS and I don't think I'll get it right away. It looked to me like there was a lot of material from Faiths and Avatars and Powers and Pantheons. The map of the Abby of the Sword was nice and the prestige classes.

I wish they would have included the mind flayer god in Defenders of the Faith. I copied the domains from this thread but I really don't want another reason to buy the book. I'll move it down on my list of to buy.

hey, i still didn't get this book yet (low on funds). i'm curious if maglubiyet got a full writeup in there, as i was working on my own and just wondering if it was worth my time to continue. ;)

Nope. He's listed in a chart as the deity of goblinoids, along with basic stats (alignment, domains, and so on), and that's it.

cool then, thanks. :) i could probably use that in my conversion (if i don't already have that all in there already).

Hey BOZ! This thread is so old - I never saw it!

Maglubiyet is indeed NOT written up here, but is listed on a page of "monster deities" What is covered:

AL: NE
Favored Weapon: Warhammer
Domains: Destruction, Evil, Planning, Trickery
Symbol: Bloody Axe
Portfolio: Goblins, Hobgoblins, leadership, war
Worshipped by: Goblinoids ( not me though )

FYI: About 25 or so other monster deities are also detailed at this level...
