I got kicked out of my group!

I never had this happen before. The group I was playing with kicked me out. Ok, that might be a bit harsh. I had joined a group several months ago and I really enjoyed it. The players were decent folk, and the GM (Scadgrad) was doing an excellent job.

We had our second child, so I had to miss a few weeks of gaming, and the players informed the GM that they liked it better with just the three of them, so they asked him to tell me not to come back.

I guess these guys had been playing a long time with just the three of them before I joined, and apparently they liked it that way the best. I certainly didn't think there were any conflicts or personality problems, so this came as a surprise to me.

It's ok, I suppose. I've just been too busy right now, and now that we've bought a house, they live on the other side of town now. But I really enjoyed my character, and am at least a little saddened that I won't be able to finish telling her story.

Anyway, does anyone else have a story to share about getting axed from their group?

It's been many a year since I was booted out of a group.

Lately I haven't had that problem. People have come and gone from timing issues rather than giving someone the boot.

In my case I don't know if I was kicked out or I quit.

I liked to socialize. The GM (Shadowrun) liked to game. He also liked to game on Saturday night which was party night for Mr. Geekus. We both handled the problem passive-agressively and rather immaturely. In the end, he ended out shouting "We're not here to have fun, we're here to play the game!"

And then I stopped gaming for several years.

I'd like to say I quit and sometimes when I tell this story, I have me standing tall, flexing my muscles with adoring supermodels massaging my neck, and I say "I've had it with this group! Fie on you and a pox be on your dice!" But that may be an exaggeration of some of the facts. Which doesn't prevent me from telling the story this way, of course. But really it was a train wreck for both of us.

Darn, Curtis, that sucks! :(

Here's hoping you find another group soon.

I don't have any stories of being axed, though I've had in the past mutually agreeable group-splits (11 players is a little too much!) and situations where we asked a player to leave (or didn't invite him back after the first game).

Hmmm, not really getting axed, but sort of axing myself. I was in a 3.0/3.5 group which I founded back in 2001. We have played off and on for months on end (taking the odd month or so break). Since 2003 I haven't been DMing, but another guy has (you can read my previous posts in other threads about why I hate DMing 3/3.5 ;) ).

Anyway, under this other DM, the game was going downhill (in *my* view; other players enjoyed it). Every five minutes (it felt like) the game was stopped to look up rules, players were sitting around with their PHBs comparing interpretations like it was frickin' Mosaic law or something and they were a bunch of rabbis.

Each session got more and more tactical and wargamey; to the point where one player started calculating (I kid you not) the ANGLE at which his archer's arrow fired (can't remember the specifics, but I just sat there shaking my head while this idiot whipped out a protractor--seriously, a *protractor*).

I stopped going to the group. The group that I founded.

Now, don't cry for me. I'm currently running a fast-and-loose AD&D 2e game with a different group and all is well. ;)

Baa, haa, haa. So funny, I forgot to laugh :)

..I would have kicked him out because of the misspelling of rouge in the questionaire: "Which of the following is made up of blood and is typically rubbed all over a woman's face? a) Rouge, b) Rogue, c) Rug."

It's an honest mistake...really, it could be anyone of the three :)

Didn't get axed but...

Almost 20 years ago...in the days of 1e, I ran across a posting in the local Waldenbooks for a game that someone was starting. A friend of mine and I decided to give it a shot. We arrived at the house at the appointed time and discovered that we had about 12 to 14 different players that had shown up. Only 1 DM of course. Since there were so many players, the DM told us that this was a "try out" for his campaign and that based on how we did that night he would decide which of us to invite back for future games.

We ran through the Dragon Magazine module "Citadel by the Sea" (level 1-3 module) with some modifications to it due to the size of the party.

By the time we were done, all but 3 of the party were dead (and 1 of those was blinded), we had failed to recover the McGuffin, we were running for our lives from an entire 100+ orc tribe who were just aching to put the hurt on us, and just managed to escape to a boat waiting offshore. Seriously the most brutal game I have ever played.

We got a call a few days later from the DM inviting us to join his campaign. We declined. We had already joined up with some others that we met there and had a great time with them for a year.

I heard later that no one from the "try out" actually agreed to come back...go figure.

Well, it's ok, I guess. My wife is certainly happy. Suddenly my Friday nights just freed up! :)

Well, it still sucks. I've never been kicked out of a group, I was never asked to come back after getting a phone call from a friend who's father had died. I excused myself from the game and left, and I overheard as I walked out, "Sure, I BET his friend's dad died."

I don't regret not being asked back.
