I hate Firefox 2

I hate the way the tabs don't all close from the right side anymore, and I hate that the quickfind doesn't allow you to "find next" or "find previous" anymore. In fact, I have yet to see anyway that it has improved the earlier version.

Does anyone know if there is somewhere I can get the older firefox from?

My opinion is still out on FF2.0 but so far I cant say that its any better but not that much worse either. I dont use the find options much tho. Anyways, I keep all the old installers so I have 0.8, 1.0, 1.1, and 1.503. Email me with which version you want and ill send it to you.

Mozilla still have 1.5 download themselves here :-

There is a repository of old versions of many software releases like adobe PDF readers and so on here :-

Its probably best in the long run if you just either a) get used to it or b) mail the support or feedback and pleasantly give them your gripes about how you think its not as good as it could be.

*sigh* You're probably right, of course, but I do use the search features a lot, and it's pretty annoying. Anywho, thanks for the links I downloaded 1.5 and I'll give some feedback to the Mozilla folks in case they decide to update the new one eventually.

You can probably (eventually, anyways) configure/extend the new firefox just like you want to have it. :)

What do you mean about the tabs, do they now close the order they had been last viewed? If so, great! I actually use an extension just to get this (and navigation by last-used-order, too) with the old version. If that's it, they might just have included a rather popular extension, supposedly. :p

Bye

I find those two things very irritating too.

You can probably get Firefox 1.5 from evolt.org as they main an enormous collection of old browsers.

In the meantime though - I know a solution for the first of your problems!

1. Open a blank tab.
2. type about:config <enter> This gets you into the configuration options
3. change the browser.tabs.closeButtons value to 3. This will not display close tabs on individual tabs, and turn on a single close tab button at the right end of the tab bar.

Also, if you hate the scrolling tab controls, modify browser.tabs.tabMinWidth (I've set mine to about 10, others suggest 50 r 75)

Excellent! Thanks.

On my Firefox 2.0 you can find next and find previous. Just saying.
If you hit ctrl-F, then the find window has next and previous.

If you hit / (which brings up the Quick Find), you don't get the buttons or checkboxes.
