I hope you mean 5'7" and 135 lbs. Otherwise you are one of the tallest bean poles I have ever heard of, and I have seen Shawn Bradley* play. I am 6'3" 290 lbs, and I can't imagine ever dropping below 220 lbs. I don't think I would look right.

*Shawn Bradley is a basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks NBA team. He is 7'6" and 270 lbs. Trust me if you haven't seen him, that is one heck of a bean pole.
Blasted Imperial system... Yes, I was 5'7" back then (174 now, so add one or two inches)

Oh, and Zarrock: The Scandinavians that don't commit suicide are actually very healthy, and live very long ;). I believe all Scandinavian countries are in the top 10 of most Healthy countries (Netherlands is #1) as tested by the UN.

And Stella Artois is a Belgian beer, last time I checked... *hiyaah google-fu* Yup, Leuven, Belgium.

Hi Derulbaskul mate! :)

I'm that rarest of beasts, a teetotalling Aussie

I thought they were extinct. ;)

(even rarer when you consider that I just spent nearly four years as an expat in Asia... and I'm still off the grog). But I'm a teetotaller because I had two choices: alcoholism or 100% sober... I chose the latter about 12 years ago and I'm glad I did.

Believe it or not I don't know any alchoholics, I have never felt addicted to alchohol in any way shape or form (and to the best of my knowledge neither has anyone I've ever known). Its simply ingrained into the culture here (and I envision to an extent the whole of the UK*).

*Among other places as Derulbaskul attests.

Now, to back up U_K's comment, in my youth I was always amazed at how little Americans drank by comparison to a normal Australian night out. Like U_K, a bottle and a half of spirits (say, about one litre) would be the starter before a big night out...

Absolutely...and wouldn't think anything of it.

which is pretty bad when you consider that I was about 5'6" tall and about 110 lbs. Arghhh... the curse of being an Aussie of Irish descent!

Hi Ryan mate! :)

Only an American would make a fuss about a measly 13 drinks. :p

Thats practically a prerequisite here...and thats before you get to the club/pub etc. (and no I'm not joking)

Now now, just because alcoholism isn't part of the national culture doesn't mean we lack standouts. I've known some pretty damn serious drinkers. People who weren't fazed by putting away a case of beer (24 12 oz).

Back in my frat days I went through about 31 shots and then meanered over to another house to continue drinking on evening. Of course events do get rather fuzzy after going over to the other party. Also, I don't believe I was particularly chipper in the morning.

Being raised by two alcoholic parents and then having a best friend killed by a drunk driver, I am not amused.

I don't say that to rain on your parade. It just that for some of us, the stories you are regaling yourselves might be funny for you but others like myself know how tragic such stories can turn out.

But do carry on. I am not here to ruin the fun.

Just consider this - instead of how funny your story is, consider how lucky you were to able to tell that story now. You could have made a very bad decision that could have lead to a far less 'funny' outcome.

Hold on mate! I don't think anyone even considered drinking and driving, and having a bout of binge drinking a couple of times a year while you're young has nothing to do with alcoholism. That's saying you are a gambling addict if you have a poker night once a month.

People will be people. I can take amusement from these things even though I've had big problems with alcohol in my life...even though I've never touched it. My dad screwed himself up and ruining my childhood(young childhood at least) in the process, my step dad makes it hell to leave my room if he's drinking...and my mother has such a horrible liver and some strange disease that she could easily die any moment. Cherish the time you have. My mother could be dead tommorrow, but its just how life works.

Sometimes it just feels good to get a good laugh at things like this...lets out stress. :)

I have long since dealt with my 'demons' from an abusive childhood with two alcoholic parents. And I enjoy life to the fullest.

Humor is subjective. I don't find any of this funny. If you do, great.

I posted because while people might consider the situations above humorous, they should also consider that they are lucky.

For every funny story about over doing the alcohol thing, there is a story where the outcome was not so funny.

Would any of the stories above still be funny if you added this single sentence to the end of the story?

"Then he go into his vehicle and had an accident on the way home ..."

Um... Yeah, let's just do away with ever laughing at anything that could have had unpleasant consequences. No physical comedy, no black humor, and no "Can't believe I was stupid enough to do that" stories, because they'll just encourage all the children to do the same thing. Won't someone please think of the children?

I think I'll start off with a petition to have The Simpsons taken off the air.

I am very thankful that I was so lucky. As stupid, dangerous, and uncaring as I used to be I'm constantly amazed that I'm still alive. Honestly, I'm surprised I made it through those years without hurting anyone on accident.
