Pathfinder 1E I have been asked to try this again

that is the problem, it doesn't address me...

1) I don't want to buy new books, I have 3.5
2) I don't like that they upped casters with more features
3) I think the spells need to be revamped
4) fighters are still boreing
Addressing the first one is easy: use the PRD. And if you prefer 3.5, then number 4 is a bit in opposition to your dislike of Pathfinder. They may well still be boring (I tend to agree) but they're an order of magnitude less boring in Pathfinder than in 3.5.

I own almost every 3.5 book. And everyone in the group has some of them.

I don't like the changes becuse they were too few, if I am playing a new system it should be new

We had our own house rules for 3.5 and I like some of them better then PF

The other player that feels he dislikes pathfinder is seconding we should play D&D instead but he thinks the next stuff or 4e would be better

The idea that it is almost the same system but I can't use any of my 3.5 books bugs me

Fighters were underpowered and boreing in 3.5 but I had book of nine swords to fix it
In pathfinder we don't

I can certainly understand the difficulty in overcoming dislike and annoyance. (Although I have to ask if you felt that way when you switched from 3.0 to 3.5, or if you just started with 3.5).

What are the DMs arguments for PF? How long does he want to be running? Are their a bunch of other DMs waiting in the wings anxious to run?

I did 2e,3e,and 3.5 then 4e, and am now waiting for next (5e)

In the case of 3.5 I was in a totally different place, that year I more then doubled my income, and had no girlfriend to spend money on. When I went to gen con that year I spent over $1,000 on the sales floor... and was treating for dinner most nights I was there... so money was no object and I was all reved up for the new books.

I lost that job in 2007, and got a much worse one that I then lost right after 4e came out...I have been working temp jobs off and on since then. I now have a girlfriend who is a single mom and My money is much tighter...

no idea,

How long does he want to be running?
he wants to run a 10-12 level campaign

we alternate game and GMs. Right now we twice per month play oWod, and once per month play RIFTS, and justed ended a once per month game of D&D next.... when we need a new game someone new just steps up... we were planning on running either 4e or myth and magic (my damn books still haven't come) so this took me by surprise.

I started this thread hoping against hope that I could disprove the schism thread... that almost no one would say "No I wont play X" At first it looked good, that first page looked like people were acting like it was a crazy thought...

If that DM has been pretty accomodating to the group in the past... I'd bite the bullet and just do it since almost all the rules are on-line for free (including the supplements). At worst, next time it comes after this you can say "Remember that last time I tried it one more time and it destroyed my soul?...."

After he gives you the campaign detail I'd probably also make another push for a modified-fave class from your 3.5 stuff if I liked them that much and it fit better than any of the canonical PF stuff.

A member of group recently asked to run Pathfinder. We just finished two sessions and now I'm switching my campaign to Pathfinder. So we've just scratched the surface.

The things I found that I didn't know about when I initially rejected Pathfinder as a choice for my game really helped add some depth on the PC side. Ask if you'll be allowed Traits, Racial Archetypes, Class Archetypes, and alternate favored class bonuses.

I find that all of those added a great deal of customizability without the issues I had with 3.5.

Why don't you just drop the xps ?

Otherwise, the rest of the stuff I don't care about.
See no reasonnot to update from 3.5 to PF, but after that, it's your call.

If you aren't DM'ing, then my suggestion is to play the class whose mechanics you dislike the least. Let the DM worry about XP and pacing, and let the other players worry about the aspects of their class you don't like.

Myself, I'm more of a take-it-or-leave-it DM, and would not cater to one or two players in particular; but I also have the good fortune to play with people that will accept all the warts of whatever system we're playing and try to have fun with it anyway (even if they grumble from time to time). After all, there is no perfect system that will please all players.

There was a d20/3x space fantasy game (gah, can't remember the name) ... but it addressed the HP issue by allowing 1st lvl characters to purchase a symbiote that basically have them +25 hp. Very nice for 1st level ... well, except when ;you're facing down lasers and what not.

I've never used the CON=1st lvl hp, but the idea seems pretty cool. Especially if you feel the adventurers are 'super/heroes' concept is best. I'd feel less bad about players rolling a 1 or 2 for their 2nd lvl (and higher) hp too.

RE: #2-4, I tend to agree. I would suggest either (1) playing a gestalt game; or (2) all players agree to play half casters. Not perfect, but either solution would put players on the same general footing.

Despite the fact I don't like 3.x much, I will admit that I have played some very fun, memorable games using the above.
