I have TWO wishes. Help please!!

I'm a Wizard and I can't think of a way to word a wish spell correctly so that I can get intelligent increases, or some spell like abilities.

1) "I wish both this wish and the next to be granted in such a way to give me the greatest benefit possible"

Or, you can just donate them to your two worst enemies and watch them blow up themselves.

More seriously, you ought to ask for two Intelligence increases. It's explictly told in the PHB that it's a fair use for a wish, so the DM shouldn't trouble you. If they are from a ring or scroll, that is. If the wishes are being granted by some external force and you know your DM will have the devil/djinn/whatever try to screw you, then by the gods DON'T USE THEM unless you're about to die anyway.

It is specifically mentioned under the Wish spell that you can get stat increases, so your DM can't screw you over if you just say. "I would like my Int score to be increased by 1." (or 2 if your were casting both wishes.)

As for the second one, I'm not certain there is a foolproof way to do this, I would explain that Wish allows you to make up to 15000 gp of items, so a minor spell-like ability (1st level, low CL) would be alot like having several wands of this spell.

And remember, nothing angers a DM more than using your abilities to screw his game world. Casting Charm Persons on an entire town will simply make him mess up your plans in other ways.

How about you talk to the DM and make sure you won't pervert the meaning of your wish?

As others have stated, the INT increases shouldn't be an issue if that is the route you choose.

For the spell-like abilities, I would look to make use of the Spell Mastery feat. As a DM, I could certainly see a player using a Wish to bump up a "Mastered Spell" to a spell-like ability usable once per day. A generous DM may even allow all of the spells mastered with one application of this feat to be upgraded to spell-like abilities with the use of a single Wish.

I think you are definitely on the right track as to how a wizard could best make use of a Wish to increase his effectiveness at what he does. As a player, I am a huge fan of innate powers and abilities as opposed to magic items which can be taken away, lost, dispelled, etc.

you can not say "I wish my intelligence were 1 point higher" your PC does not know his INT is 18 (or whatever)

"I wish I were smarter."

Should do it. If your DM screws with that wish, hit him, then leave the game.

If you are casting the spell and spending your experience points to do it, your DM should let you cast it as you want within the parameters of the spell.

If the spell comes from a scroll, a ring, yourself, or some other unintelligent force, then the DM should not try to screw you as long as you ask effects that are listed in the PHB description of the spell. That description doesn't say anything about screwing the caster.

On the other hand, if the wish is being granted by an intelligent and possibly evil force or being, then know that you may be screwed no matter what you ask. In those cases, I suggest to first of all find out if the DM is inclined to screw you; if the answer is yes, don't use the wish.

Edit: eer, when I say "yourself, or some other unintelligent force", I don't mean that you are unintelligent, but that if you're casting it from a spell the spell isn't intelligent and can't screw you.
