Abraxas said:There is another problem with the group that I can't seem to break them of - because everyone is familiar with FR it is almost impossible to get them to try any other setting or style of setting - Its the only setting that the other DM runs and everyone except me expects that setting style whenever anyone else DMs.
I had the same situation when I switched over to Midnight. Everyone was nice and cozy with their FR characters and everyone knew the setting. I asked them as a favor to just give the Midnight setting a honest try for a single session. We hadn't even finished character creation when they started clamoring for the new setting. Midnight is NOT a vanilla flavored setting. The races are completely revised... there are 3 human races (and more in the Netbook) to reflect where and how that race prospered before the 3rd age. Every player feels that their character can make a real difference in the campaign setting and not be overshadowed by any Uber-NPCs like Elminster and Khelben in the FR. I am completely sold on the setting and probably won't run FR or GH again (though I would certainly play). Head over to Fantasy Flight Games' Midnight site and send the link to your players so they can read some background prior to running it (if you choose to do so). If you don't want to run it I suggest buying it for your DM... bribery can get you anywhere.
