A rant...

Today, I sort of lost it at work, had a meeting on a 'new file transmission' going into production, in test phase or so I was lead to believe and meeting was to place it into production, well, the file has been processed as production for the last two month, surprise. Today's meeting was to set up security, set paths and documentation. Process was an automatic file transfer nothing too out-of-the-normal but all of a sudden the secutity guys and system src start to grill me over the way my department performs file transmission, I took it personal. The problem with this was a number of 'issues' that I have wanted corrected 'local' vs 'network' and holes I have seen in security and have been trying to get resolved via SOP were bounced back on me (mostly update tech). Arrrrrrrrrrrrr! What really ticked me off, was two of the people that felt there were issues in my system were the people that never listened to my concerns about file transmission!

Wow, I don't think I understood that, maybe the gist but certainly no specifics. But it sure sounded frustrating! I hate it when people who ignore action items or refuse to help out on a project show up to criticize it (whether or not that's what you're describing).

Most of the time work sucks anyway. Yours seem to particularly suck, as it is almost impossible to understand what you told there. Anyway, the two guys mentioned deserve to be slapped.

We had one administrator quit last month and another that has been on vacation for two weeks so its just me and another admin doing all the work. Plus we have a boss who likes to just arbitrarily make decisions without consulting anyone or considering the impact it has on the rest of the staff and network. It is at these times when I start to think about Milton Waddams and the famous quote.."I'll just set the building on fire."

Goes to show it is better not to type while being very very mad.

Oh, and now there is the issues about some chairs in my area...it was noted how comfortable and stylish they are and so other people in other departments want them and went to Building Services to order some but found they could not supply them because non-standard and the nearest match was $800 and turn around was 3 to 4 weeks! The thing about it was I ordered from our on-line supplier and got them for $250, next day...talk about a racket! :\

I am just having a bad week.

Wow. I'm afraid the last thing you said that I understood was: "Work - I just need a vacation! Rant!" As I understand it, there are people somewhere doing something you don't like. Since I know nothing of the situation I'll just side with you and lend my support. Bad people, stop pissing of the Hand of Evil!

Somedays, and it's becoming most days, I wonder how business, any business, gets done at all, anywhere.

Bummer day, Hand of Evil. Hang in there. Get some fresh air, take a walk. I find that when I exercise (in general, and more specifically during stressful times) I feel better, as it can help work off some energy and take your mind off the issues (most important) or even help you focus better on solving the problem. Sometimes, this means focusing on polishing up the résumé!
