What background? What skills do you have proficiencies in? With those stats I guess you are less worried about meelee combat than most wizards. ;)
I took the Folk Hero background. He's developed a reputation as someone good at everything, but you can't help but like him :)

I took Arcana and Insight from the Wizard class and he gets Animal Handling, Survival and Vehicles Land from Folk Hero which I like because I also took Tinker's Tools as a proficiency.

He travelled outlying villages as a Tinkers helper and began to develop a bit of magic like making toy soldiers march and salute

Looking at his traits, ideals, and flaws, it looks like he helped the common folk against a local tyrant and took a beating for it. Now he hates bullies and is convinced he has a destiny to make right many of the world's wrongs!

He carries an old sword because that's what heroes do.

What could possibly go wrong?

:D

I propose that you NOW establish the backstory that the character is one of a set of triplets, and they are all genetically identical and like to do stuff together.

Yes! A folk hero eldest of three siblings, setting out on a quest!
Success is guaranteed.

What spells are in your spellbook?

My cantrips:

Light - pretty handy for a Tinker
Prestidigitation - the spell that lets me bring the toy soldiers to life :)
Fire Bolt - it's dangerous traveling from town to town

Spellbook:

Charm person - likable fellow and learned to add a little "push" to his winning smile :)
Detect Magic and Identify - long hours of handling objects helped develop an instinct for recognizing value
Mage Armor - learned to wrap his "gift" about himself early on
Thunderwave - sometimes you need loud noises and a push to escape
Sleep - sometimes you need peace and quite to escape

He casts using a Component Pouch - He has spent his whole life handling little trinkets and being able to forge magical links and causing things to happen while touching them just comes natural to him.
