I killed Orcus!

With regards to Orcus's CR - I think the GM told us he is a 22. He was using stats from Hordes of the Abyss, a book I don't own. However, the GM has been known to mix up critter stats on the same page (we had to fight a force/prismatic dragon once, because the GM kept reading the stat block for one and the special abilities for the other). Also, every member of the party has an epic weapon (well, the dragon shaman didn't get his until we killed Orcus - we think the mace is probably his now) or item (in the case of the archivist). They gave really potent advantages to the warmage & the fighter, at least. That really only got us TO Orcus. The rest was our own stupidity/audacity.. :)

With regards to why we were "picking on Orcus" - he was doing a ritual that would kill our characters as soon as it was completed - so far as we knew, we'd just drop dead, no saves, no other way to avoid it. So we had to get into his tower to disrupt it - not my fault his tower only had 4 rooms and he was doing the ritual in his throne room.

We don't actually know whether we killed him, or the Goddess for that matter, in character. Personally, my character (archivist) is assuming Orcus was only stunned, or that what we encountered was an avatar, and we sure left in a hurry, just in case. My character is also going to take up the worship of said sacrificial goddess. I may have to find a death-ward item, just in case.. :)

And equal rites too!

Interesting story. I'd like to here more about the imprisoned deity.

I don't know much about her except she was N. G. Her name was Olladra, and I haven't checked if there's some D&D source material on her somewhere. The GM mentioned she was associated with prophecy as well as knowledge.

We found her a while back being used as the "power source" for a big nasty constructy thingy.

If the archivist ever uncovers more info about it, I will try to remember to post it here (don't hold your breath, though.. I forget fast!). ;)

Scottsdale!?!

Well, I'm gonna wait until about July and then I'm gonna ask you just how much you're enjoying the weather down there, ...then I'm just gonna cackle with glee.

PJ, has the right idea. Equal Rites for all. What's a little human sacrifice among fiends anyway.
fixed your typo

Well have you tried TALKING with him about it. Have you tried asking him nicely not to do an uber-death creating ritual on you and your party. You could have given him a life-saver and a smile, you know. I mean, he doesn't have that many friends you know. Maybe, he just feels left out. I think it was a cry for help, personally. Just one lonely demon in a cruel world trying to reach out and make new friends. And you up and blast him out of creation entirely.

...sad day.

Drat! Frukathka has evaded my tauntage entirely. I shall have to plot against him a second time.

The GM told us later that he *EXPECTED* that we'd all kneel to Orcus like good little mortals and negotiate for him to kindly not finish his ritual and kill us (He also did not expect two characters to start a fight when they got turned CE by a spell.. sigh..).

Clearly the GM does not know his characters ;). There are two that would rather die than kneel, and I could have told him that. So we had to fight! Personally, my archivist is a gnome, so she's pretty used to people looking down at her and doesn't pay it much attention. Alas, she only has a 7 CHA, so no one listens to her.. :)

*sighs* James Jacobs, I blame you for this Travesty! :p

But even so, from what has been revealed, I honestly think this entire encounter was bound to crash from the start. Poor GM planning, bad understanding of his players...yeah it's pretty much not an encounter I'd encourage.

Olhydra!!? She the FREAKING archomental of evil water elementals! :p Orcus could take her, snap her neck and be like "How'd you like that?!" *shakes his head* Sad, sad, sad day.

I agree with Elemental. It sounds like a hoot. One day I too would like to beat down a Demon Prince using a disco-style bowling ball. Top job Jubilee.

Darn. I guess I need to come up with a new adventure for next week. I was planning on having my party storm Thanatos.

*The noble adventurers, after many trials and tribulations, pain and sacrifices, finally walk into the lair of the demon king. Dark statues depicting scenes of epic evil are lying against the wall... the party leader, Sir Paladin the Paladin looks around... the rogue, Sneak McSneakerson finally breaks the silence "so... where is this guy.. all I see here are shards of green gemstone (which I pocket) and that's it... what gives?"
