I know Druids can be evil, but how evil can they really be?

In the FR, possible deities for an evil druid include: Talos (The Stormlord), Auril (Frostmaiden), Malar (Beastlord), Umberless (Queen of the Deeps) and Talona (Lady of Poison/Disease). Some of these deities are CE, but because of the "one step" alignment rule, NE works.

Possible NE druid archetypes:

1. The fanatical ecoterrorist. Destroy all civilization!!!

2. The predatory hunter. Nature is cruel and savage. I will claw my way to the top of the food chain.

3. Tyrant of the forest. I am master of the wilderness. The flora and fauna bend to my will. Woe to anyone who enters my domain.

4. Nature's wrath. Nature is to be feared. I harness the fire, lightning, wind and water and rain death and destruction down upon you. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

I've used evil druids several times in my campaign; mainly because I got tired of the peaceful, benevolent tree-hugger stereotype that druids are often associated with. :)

I'm thinking along the lines of a crazy druid. Perhaps he wasn't always evil and has only gone that way because of something in his past (lost SAN check). Anybody seen the movie Ravenous? Perhaps he was was trapped by weather and forced to eat other humans. In the end he enjoyed this and has come to believe that by eating them, he gains their power. The greater the creature eaten the greater the power (whcih is sort of true in the D&D CR/EXP system, of course, no need to eat them). perhaps he's not always like this but every now and then, he leads people through the forest into a trap. They're split up and monsters take care of some while he takes care of others. Although cowardly in base nature and prone to run rather than fight to the death. Anybody defeating him would become an obsession that he would track down no matter what it took.
