I Need Advice From D&D Folks...

Darn, I can't read them. The comics show-up as big white rectangles. I'm using the Safari brownser on a Mac...but I've never had a problem viewing any other webcomics, so I'm baffled.

Yeah, seems like you're doing just fine to me. No need to change.

You may want to take a page out of Rich Burlew's book, and add a FAQ explaining some of the peculiarities of your comic. here's a snippet from the Order of the Stick FAQ page:
Q: How come I only get about half the jokes? And what is a (gaming term)?

A: OK, now, the crucial piece of information you might be missing is that The Order of the Stick is a comic that parodies fantasy roleplaying games—specifically, Dungeons & Dragons. When the comic started out, it was only being seen by people who were already coming to my gaming site, so there was little expectation that anyone reading it wouldn’t “get” it. However, as we have spread in popularity, more and more people are finding their way to OOTS, and I’m hearing more about people who don’t get all the references. I heartily encourage anyone curious about roleplaying games to go out and try D&D; despite my loving satire, I feel it is a fantastic game that has greatly enriched my life over the years.

Mind you, OOTS can be enjoyed by people who don’t know what a d20 is. I try hard to make sure that the strip contains plenty of character-based humor so that even those not up-to-date on the latest rules will get a chuckle. But ultimately, OOTS will remain rooted in gaming jokes in the future.

One more suggestion...

At 5 pages, this last "pointy stick" episode is quite long - which might be why you're getting these "I only made it halfway through" comments. I think you could easily have split it into two episodes and/or shortened it to three pages.

If you were to move to a 1 or 2-page format, it seems like you could easily do two or three episodes per week. Gives your readers more of a sense of instant gratification (both in terms of not having to wait a whole week for a new comic, and not having to wait 5 pages for the punchline), and it would probably help building a more loyal following.

I think you might be right. Alot of people have mentioned how my last update was too long and could have been shortened. I just have a strong sense of wanting to push as much as I can into one update because I'm afraid that if I split it up into smaller ones, readers might get to the end and go.. "that's it?". I almost want to visit each reader's home and tell them "It's ok, there's more coming after this.. Just be patient cause I'm 'laying pipe' as they say."
