I Need an effect that prevents teleportation only.

Hey all -

Is there a spell or effect similiar to forbiddance that prevents characters from teleporting out of a room, but without the extra restrictions? Basically I want characters to be able to enter easily, just not teleport out.

A quick examination of the SRD didn't turn up anything...

If it's a plot hook sort of thing, it does not need to be in the books.

Preventating telportation only is pretty reasonable - make it a unique, say, 6th level spell for Dispel Magic reasons, but otherwise leave it a mystery.

Some things can be left unexplained forever.

Hmmm. That might be the way to go. The deal is I included a green dragon in its lair as a "random encounter" early in my Dalelands based Forgotten Realms campaign. My players vowed to return and "remove" the dragon from Cormathor. So now it's 10 levels later, and my players have returned to dispose of the dragon, only to find it has been transformed into a dracolich. My players saw the dracolich, s**t themselves, and now want to teleport out of the lair.

I figure either the dracolich or the Cult of the Dragon would have taken measures to prevent people from teleporting in and out of it's lair at will. I just can't imagine what they would be and still keep it fair and "rules based."

In Faerun, there are Wards -like the ones in Silverymoon- that prevent teleportation. It could simply be a version of those. You could argue that the spell was cast outside the Ward, so they "beamed" in, but once there, they can't cast it again because they're within the Ward's range. :)

I had a magical item in my campaign that acted as a Dimensional Anchor with a 300' radius. If it's always on, it's pretty powerful. If it's only on when somebody tries to teleport, and then for only an hour or so duration, and then it can only do this once per week, then it's cheaper, but still has good use.

They didn't teleport in, the walked into the lair (managing to trip every trap along the way  ;) ), but now they want to get out in a hurry. I don;t want to stop them from leaving, just teleporting - wards may seem to be the way to go...

How about a room effect counterspell.

Basically put a magic item in the room with a large area of effect with charges. Each charge is a Teleport spell. The item automatically counterspells any teleport spells in the room.

A couple 5th-level spells you might check out: Teleport Block (Book of Eldritch Might) or Dimensional Lock (Magic of Faerun). Both stop teleportation in an area....

If clerical spellcasting is available, then Hallow/Unhallow will do this quite nicely. It can hold one "embedded" spell, and dimensional anchor is one of the possibilities. Lasts one year, and it'll cost, but it fits the bill.

Check Monte Cook's BoEM3 for other teleporting related spells, although I'm not sure if he has anything like that in there.
