I need help choosing a Prc

Ok, our game is set in FR, my character is a 10th level Necromancer w/ 2 free levels.

So here's my problem, I can't make up my mind on which Prc to go with-heres the ones I've been thinkin' bout':

Loremaster- Because my character is basicly a book-worm, looking for any rumor's or legends of powerful artifacts, rituals, or new uses for old spells.

Red Wizard of Thay-(yes, I meet the regional prereq.) The only thing stopping me from taking this class is the Enhanced specialization, because I'm having trouble choosing my first Prohibited school.

I plan on this character taking me through the Epic Level HB, and after I attain my 20th casting level I plan to search for the "Crown of Horns" and become a "Horned Harbringer".

Any help/advice would be useful-aside from telling me not to specialize in Necromancy :) - If you need anymore info just ask, but this is all I can think of

Is your necromancer a wiz, sorc, or a cleric? IMHO, clerics make the best necromancers.

If it is a cleric, i would go heirophant. They are different, and very cool.

Wiz- go red wizard... or archmage.

Or (and I may risk heresy here) don't take a prestige class. :) It sounds like you're trying to choose one just for the sake of having one, which is perhaps not the best reason. Take a prestige class because it fits, or because it's something to which the character aspires. Don't take them for mere power, or "just because".

Umbran, I do think though he wants some choices.

There are couple I can recommend, but if you're set on these, I'd say Red Wizard. The first school school be Illusion and probably Enchantment for the other. Remember Necromancers are allowed to choose ANY other school, but I think these are the ones most Necromancers can do with out SINCE they aren't ALWAYS affective against undead.

Sod: He doesn't have the pre-reqs just yet and be sides he'd have to get a spell focus in another school along with skill focus Knowledge Arcana.

More and more, I am convinced of the rightness of Robin Laws' description of RPGs as "fantasy shopping for guys".

Bleh! I never did like Robin Law. Assasin's Apprecince was alright but it CERTAINLY wasn't a great series.

Erm... That series was written by Robin Hobb.

As for the PrC question... Is the character particularly religious, and what is his patron deity? You might consider Arcane Devotee.

Amen Umbran, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Neo, well just because someone LIKES a pr-class doesn't mean he/she wants it merely for it's power value. Some of them, like Divine Champion, are powerful but also make for good RPing material, ESPECIALLY if you add a quest onto it as well.

Btw, Neo, like your sig. I personally though perfer: The lion sings and the Hills take flight, the sun by day and the moon by night. blind woman, deaf man, jackdawl fool, let the lord of Chaos rule.

Or my other favorite:
blood feeds blood
blood calls blood
blood is, blood was and blood shall ever be
Now the Great Lord comes.
