I Want More Adventure Tools!

C'moooon Wizards get crackin!

The monster builder is awesome, so far... I wonder what will be different/better in the final release?

I want more tools though! An encounter builder would be perfect! Not having to go back to the Bonus Tools and use placeholder monsters for ones I make would be awesome.

My wishlist for this:

I would like pictures of each monster/creature to accompany the stat blocks.

I would like a random encounter generator with filters. You put the XP range in (say an encounter worth between 500 - 750 XP), the type of encounter (solo, elite, standard, minions), and the amount of creatures (example 1 - 10). Then it would randomly pull creatures into an encounter based on that criteria. Another filter would be monster types (Humans, Beasts, Animals, etc.)

This way if you wanted an encounter with Bandits (of any race), it would only pull those. If you wanted a pack of wild animals, you could filter that. Or a specifically a pack of wolves, it would pull those. And so on.

The following are the things I want out of the DM toolset:

  • Monster builder, of course.
  • Encounter builder, allowing the DM to set an XP budget and fill the budget with monsters.
  • Treasure manager, allowing the DM to assign treasure parcels to encounters and quickly select suitable loot, as well as review a summary of all loot handed out to date.
  • Map maker.
  • Skill challenge designer, incorporating all the latest guidelines and errata.
  • Campaign encyclopedia, allowing the DM to create new entries for NPCs, locations, artifacts, organizations, and so forth. It should include automatic hyperlinking for ease of use, and each entry should have "public" (visible to players) and "private" (DM-only) sections. The DM should have the ability to publish the encyclopedia on a WotC server, where the players can review the public sections at their leisure.
  • All of the above, except possibly the encyclopedia, should be designed to be as print-friendly as possible. Ideally, I should be able to design the whole adventure in DM Tools, hit the "print" button, grab the pages out of the printer, and head off to the game. (Also, please remember that not everybody has a color printer.)

I REALLY hope I'm not wrong in my belief that a lot of the XML integration in the programs is getting them ready for interoperability.

IE the Adventure tools will contain tools to help the DM design the campaign (including house rules, table rules, new classes, races, magic items, artifacts, equipment, etc...) and then export them for the Players to import into their character builders.

I want a game table, even if it is 2D with tokens. Nearly all my players have moved far enough away that a game table would be extremely helpful.

When D&D finally embraces technology and the internet, I see no reason why playing with others in another state or country could not only be viable, but easy because of integration with the other tools and databases.

Yeah right now Maptools is one of the best alternatives, but having the ability to import right from teh Monster Builder would be fantastic.

I want Encounter Builder to print out statblocks for a full encounter, preferably formatted so I can fit multiples onto a page. Basically, give me the ability to print out encounters like they are in the books.
