D&D 5E I want more flavorful wizard subclasses.

So are we also restricting opposed schools? I think wizards get too many slots now, excluding anything flavourful, but if they took the hit of not having access to some spells I could support adding some extra flavour-rich spells

No, I wouldn't. Why take things away? Give them both. You could also raise the DC for spells of their chosen school, to make them better at those spells than other casters.

Because when everything is thrown in a pot it becomes a flavorless mess, Wizards get access to every spell thus making School specialisation a bit pointless. Adding more spell slots without some reason to specialise is just adding more power without flavour.

personal I’d go further and make wizards choose 3 schools as their only schools. Then use memorisation or items (scrolls & wands) as a way to learn a spell from a different school for one off use

What about an official 5e arcane tradition based off of the Elements? Pathfinder 1st edition has Elemental Wizard Schools that cover the elements of Air, Earth, Fire, Wood, Aether, Metal and Wood.
