OK, that didn't come out right. I think its a must for Sorcs, since it effectively doubles their options. Lightning and Acid are good choices.

I love the scaling mind powers to bits. You are dead on in your assessment here, however.

I echo the suggestion of Searing Spell. Consider also Lesser Orb of Fire as one of your first level attack spells.
