I was skipping class... and now I'm not!

So - this morning I decided to skip my first class... it's really rather boring and annoying for reasons that I won't go into. However - the kicker is - when I skip class, I feel *terrible* about it, I always think it's a good idea until I'm actually doing it and start to feel like a bad student or something.

And so - here I am - skipping class, reading the boards, and preparing to send my teacher the "I'm not going to be in class" email when... all of a sudden, my gmail popped up and sang like a choir of angels!!

"Dear class," wrote Professor Boggs, "Class is cancelled today as I am sick."

*squeals* Yay! I was skipping class... and now I'm not!

The only classes I ever felt guilty about skipping were the ones I liked. The ones I didn't like, I didn't care whether I went or not. OTOH, I worked my way through college with no outside financial assistance, so I never felt like I was wasting someone else's money. I went to a total of 5 of my microeconomics classes (the prof thought she was an expert on the computer industry and so clearly was not), and about that of my 'Nature of Human Conflict' class taught by some bleeding-heart, kumbaya-singing, "can't we all just get along" prof.

And yes, I knew what the class was before signing up for it, but it was first thing in the morning, and I had a really kick-ass Shakespeare class right afterwards, so I took this one on the theory that I wouldn't sleep through two classes :p Plus, I discovered I needed a liberal arts class at the last minute.

Same here, except my prof's diction left something (ok, a lot) to be desired.

You know, I always feel guilty too. Even if I am legitimately sick.

i felt that way about school, and i feel the same way at work. consequently, i usually have one of the best attendance records, if not the best. given how much time i waste at work, that almost evens things out for me. ;)

I don't recall ever skipping a class in college. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I was sure I was going to miss something important.

What really gets me is the fact that the teacher sent out her email just as class should have been starting... so - there was a class full of people that weren't going to get her email.

Had I gone, I would have been stuck at school from 9:55 am - 1:00pm with nothing to do (as my next class starts at 1)... which, as someone that lives an hour from school, I find to be very annoying.

I'm a lucky girl. :)

I didn't skip many classes, but the ones I did were never worth attending due to the incompetence of the teachers. One never took attendance, rarely made any sense, and his tests didn't remotely resemble anything we hever discussed in class or read in the assigned work. It was easier to just read his recommended reading off the syllabus than actually try to do what he assigned in class.

I skip class frequently.

It's like a hobby, nearly.

I don't get why people would feel guilty about it. I mean, it's your loss. You're not betraying anyone!
