I wonder about Gleemax...

The likes of ENWorld and RPG.net already have big communities associated with them, so that would be tough from an inertia standpoint. . .

That's the biggest hurdle, I think. I've been banned from RPGNet (I don't really miss it all that much) and I still don't find the need to visit the WotC or Gleemax forums very often. ENWorld has them both beat in terms of utility and content, IMHO.

I've been crossposting to gleemax from here and my blog, and the functionality is dreadful. I am truly astonished at how long it took them to issue even the first patch, and why it hasn't been improved more? It smacks of incompetence beyond the dreams of most program managers. (Though alas, not all. :()

I persisted with posting there for a couple of reasons. One is that there are some excellent people contributing: very dedicated, even with the lack of proper support.

The other is that Gleemax promises to be the one place I can discuss both my gaming hobbies, boardgaming and roleplaying, and without separating the two overmuch.

However, the functionality of EN World, and especially Boardgamegeek.com, dwarf gleemax at present. I wish it was better.

Cheers!

I think that I visited Gleemax a grand total of 3 times since its inception... and those time were because of links posted here?!?

Me as well, and I've also observed everything Glyfair pointed out.

Glad to see I'm not the only one noticing the load speeds. I thought it was me on a slow 256k DSL line. I've refused to go there for months. I recently checked back to see if there was any improvement in load times . . . there wasn't. I'll check the site again around 4e release, but I'm not holding out hope at this pace.

I have dial-up only so I not only do I refuse to go there but I doubt I even could. WoTC meant well but I think they shot themselves in the foot.

I never really thought about it until now but I used to go to the WotC site a lot more than I do now.

Why the change?

I think part of it is I don't like the layout and it makes it hard for me to find things I'm looking for. I'd rather see everything on one page than have everything subdivided into different pages (Dungeon, Dragon, etc.) which mean I have to load separate pages constantly.

Add to that the fact that the page loads so much slower than the old WotC site did and it's just a turnoff.

Yet another goof on the road to 4E.

I won't go to gleemax sites because of their rediculously abusive user agreement.

Sorry, but I look at the possible worst case scenarios involved with that agreement and tend to believe that given enough time, and enough use eventually a worst case scenario will come to pass.

I Won't do business with anyone who wants me to agree to rake myself over the coals to protect their liability.

Three little letters: TOU.

Once they make it worthwhile for me to overcome that massive opposition, I'll consider visiting there. As it sits....ew.

That's where I'm at as well.

I *want* Gleemax to work. Right now, it doesn't.
