I wonder about Gleemax...

I've never really used Gleemax. Like others I've only been to the site if somebody linked to a designer's blog or something else. Otherwise, I prefer to hang out here with the ENWorld crowd.

I think they don't need to cater to current gamers; if they manager to cater to new gamers their mind-share will keep growing and sites that cling to old editions or by sheer luck attracted a lot of members prefering older editions will just fade away. Members on these boards might not even notice: All their friends are still on the same board. It's just the youngsters that stop coming.

Not sure whether that's true, but it would explain why both camps seem happy except for those that try to cross over.

WotC is appealing to me less and less as a gamer.

I refuse to have anything to do with them since they killed dragon magazine and destoryed dungeon magazine.

Because I can't read about it in my magazines, I have not bothered to learn about 4th edition, I have more gaming material for d20 than I will ever use, so i don't feel a need to migrate. Dragon magzine convinced me to migrate to 3e from 2e, that draw is no longer there.

Gleemax, to me it was just somthing that swallowed up and destoryed the WotC message boards.

Young does not mean stupid. If the new gamers can only have an ugly non-functional site, they won't remain gamers for long.

Especially given the excellent forums they can have for MMOs.

If the intention of Gleemax is to become The gamer hub, I wonder what they would or could actually do to engender that?

Dramatically re-design the Gleemax website for starters.

Ideally using a proven, off-the-shelf forum/blogging/etc engine. There are lots of free and pay-for options which would do the job far, far better than their current effort.

Cheers

Then again, I've just done a "View Source" and it makes me wonder whether they are using the abomination which is known as SharePoint from Microsoft. I've had that foisted on me in the day job and if they are using that I feel their pain :(

(BTW - did you know they are still using FONT tags in their markup? I ask you!)

Hey! This is agile software development, baybee!

I think the fact that the company they hired is HQ'd blocks from Microsoft HQ hints at oh so much.

Microsoft, is that why?

I could go on about its craptasticness, but the fact that I am one of a few willing to put up with it has made me a major scooper here....I should be thankfull...

...nah. I would just sooner have something that worked.
