IA: A Teacher for Laynie

"So, I take it you're hoping I can get a clue from my entrance exam to your little parchment behind the wall mystery?"

"You probably won't, but there's this one part where you might. I won't say more, since it is forbidden, and I do try to follow the rules when they make sense--and in this case they do, it wouldn't be fair to the others taking the exam to give out advance info."

*She takes Vanitri back to the beach and waves to Mearran and Laynie, picking up the little girl and putting her back on the floating disc.*

"Want to check out my room and then head back to the main complex? We've seen a lot of the broad areas, and now you've seen all the dormitory complexes except Sice. I guess I could take you there too if you want?"

*Elektra nods and heads back to the rounda and off down a hall before she reaching a door.*

"I actually got to live in a double by myself, which is nice. Lot's of space."

*She knocks on the door.*

"Hey, are you in there studying? If so, make yourself scarce for just a moment, okay?"

*There is no response.*

"Okay then. Here we are,"

*Elektra opens the door, revealing a large double like Truman's, except this one has had one of its beds moved out, leaving a huge amount of space, which contains two study desks, each lined with a neatly-arranged row of books. There is some sort of schedule or calendar on the wall, and a closet on the side holds mostly simple robes, but two stylish dresses as well, one trailing and in pink and the other a sleek black.*

"And this is the place I call home. Pretty standard for a double. I'm going to set down some books while you look around. Let me know and I'll try to find someone to let us into Sice."

Vanitri chuckles at her joke of knocking. "Nice dresses, probably nicer with you in them. They for more formal occasions?"

"Yeah, those come up every so often. I'm going to wear the black one next, I think. The pink one would just remind me of how Alden ruined everything at the last dance."

*She sets down some books and picks up a note, nodding to herself.*

"I'll admit I don't have many friends in Sice, but just now I'm feeling lucky. Shall we be off?"

"Sure."

"So, just what happened at the last dance Elektra? Or would you rather I called you Lex, or Elie?"

"Lex is what some of my friends call me. I like Elektra and Lex both about the same. Don't care for Ellie, though--that's usually short for Elayna in these parts, and far too many of them are stuck-up Highborne."

"As for the dance, I'd rather not talk about it, sorry."

"So, you've seen a lot of stuff today so far. Do you have any questions for me while we are en route to Sice?"

"Done!" Laynie proclaims.

"Aww, come one, we've already kissed on the first date and it's not even over yet," Vanitri says, moving his eyebrows in jest with a mildly silly grin. "I understand, perhaps sometime later."

"Well, I... Done with what Laynie, the book?"

"I don't know, Mr. Freefolk. Pranking Alden aside, based on age and your year at school, you are either too old or too young for me," Elektra laughs, "Is that the kind of thing that averages out?"

"Yep. Not too much stuff, but the way they have a little story about an elf who's learning to be a Wizard is fun to read."

"So you were just skimming it for the story I guess?"

"Nope, just done. I was reading like forever. If I was slower, I'd be an old lady by the time I'm done!"

"You're silly--am I an old lady?"

"You're pretty old, Miss Elektra. You must be at least twice as old as you were yesterday to be that old! Not as old as Mister Vanitri though."

"Don't you know it's bad to tell girls they're old, Laynie? We don't like it, so you know what I'm going to have to do now?"

"Uhh, what?"

"I'll have to..." Elektra strikes forward without warning and starts to tickle Laynie, "Time for a tickle!"

*Laynie giggles as Elektra tickles her for a while, and then the older girl stops.*

"Let's keep going. Almost there."
