Sir Guarin

Maerdwyn said:
When she reaches her cousin, and sees the other two approaching as well. She looks in the general direction of the river and to her cousin, she says (in the bold, ringing tone familiar to the manor folk from her sermons), "Is everything ready, Sir Guarin?"

"As ready as can be, My Lady" his voice rumbles in his peculiar accent. "Except for the lack of horses" he adds.

He goes on one knee, in the middle of the courtyard, and looks at her with his pale blue eyes. "Will you bless us, Lady, and take my oath?"

Forissa nods solemnly and says to all the people, "Please join us in prayer." She waits a few seconds as everyone readies themselves, and then speaks, raising a single arm with an open hand, reaching towards the sky. She speaks

"You who see, and are Master of, all; You, whose breath fills us, and whose blessings are our only comfort: We ask that you be with your young servant, Myrel, in her time of trial. Comfort her and keep her from harm, and frustrate the schemes of those who conspire against her, and through her, You.

And if, in Your wisdom and mercy, it is your will that she be brought back to her home safely, we beg that you choose your willing servants, here, as the agents of your will, that they may play some part in your inscrutable design. Touch them, and confer a measure of your grace upon them.

She lowers her hand and holds it out to Guarin in a formalized invitation to rise.
"Sir Guarin, if you would accept this charge, rise and declare yourself before the people!"

Didn't know if this was one of those routine (automatic) attempts, or if there was a difficulty attached. My first roll was: (Benediction 5, INF 4: 5,3,7,6 for 2 steps, if I've got this right). If that was enough, cool. If not, she'll cotinue speaking after Guarin and the others take their oaths (if the others beside Guarin are taking oaths.)

--- TARREN - BY THE RIVER ---

Tarren makes it through the fields of Fernon village without any complications and dissappears into the trees that line the river. The banks of the river are quite steep and overgrown. Access would involve some scrambling through the bushes along this length of the river. But there is a track running along the top of the bank that takes Tarren in the direction of Broke-back bend.

After about 15 minutes, Tarren gets a glimpse through the trees of sand up ahead. Its about 50 feet ahead. Pulled up on the flat bank are two of the flat bottomed boats used by the local fishermen. The river hear is broad and slow. Lounging around the boats are some fishermen.

I was tempted to sblock the two separate storylines, but decided it wasn't really necessary. But if you want me to ...

"With the Good Lord as my witness, I vow to bring back Lady Myrel to her home."

He draws his dagger and makes a small cut in the palm of his left hand.

"With St-Michael as my witness, I vow a blood-oath, to heap vengeance upon those who sought to do her harm."

Tarren grimaces slightly at the sight of the fishermen. Hopefully they won't recognize him, or if they do, they'll just assume he's skiving off some errand or other, no concern of theirs. He tries to look nonchalant as he moves forward to follow the river bank.

[ooc: sblocks aren't neccessary I expect. How far from the bend am I?]

Forissa clasps Guarin's bloodied hand in both of hers and says a short silent prayer. "Present your sword, Sir Guarin." When he does, she runs his hand down length of the flat of the blade, pressing the blood into it. As she does, the glint of the sunlight off the metal begins to take on a reddish hue, and when his hand leaves the blade after tracing its length, his hand is clean, save for a thin pink line, where he had made the cut. She turns from him to those in attendance.

"Let us pray. 'Allfather, watch over your servants as they carry out the task you have appointed to them, and guide them to Myrel, wherever she may be. Keep her safe, and calm her fears. Be with Lord Lumin, and guide him rightly. Be with all your steadfast people, and grant them their daily blessings; keep them from harm. Allfather, we tremble at your wisdom and your might, and we trust that all that will be, will be according your plan. Such are the prayers of your people, oh God!'" She changes to the slightly less intense tone used for dismissing the congregation after service. "Now go, and do your works for the day, as we go to begin ours. 'May God comfort and sustain you, until we meet again!'"

She smiles, then turns to the three men. "Is there anything more we need before we depart?" she asks quietly.

[sblock] I think an Efficacy endowment on the sword makes sense, considering the second part of the vow, but if not, that's cool too. I think both the Benediction and the Sacrement rolls may be at -1Difficulty because of being in a town with a majority of our own religion - don't know what the effects of that would be, though. -- THE SEACH PARTY --

"No, I don't think so. We should get moving now."

With that Lumin rises and after one last goodbye to his mother, leads the search party out of the gates and down the path to Feron village and beyond, the river.

-- TARREN ALONE --

Halfrogman; did you see the post in the ooc thread? Not sure if I am reading your post right; you want to go past the fishermen? Broke-back is where the tracks leads Mosa, and there he found signs of a boat having been used. The fishermen are sitting around at Broke-back awaiting the search party. Just wanted to check you knew.

Tarren looks slightly confused as he realizes that actually, this is exactly where he wanted to be. Lost in thought he has arrived at Broke-back bend sooner than he expected. The others said that the tracks ended here, and whoever it was went across or upstream. Well, Tarren doesn't have a boat, and he doesn't have any horses to worry about either. All he has to do is make it across and start looking.

[ooc: Yeah, sorry I got lost. Didn't know where I was. The old post doesn't really apply any more.

River information? Too cold to swim in (hypothermia?) or is it a nice sunny day? Wide, quick torrent of a river, or a liesurely paddle across?]

Guarin follows Lumin. He stays close Forissa. His shield is on his back and he uses his longspear as a walking staff. Although it is early morning he's already starting to sweat beneath his chainmail-and-plate.

Good thing we're on the road again. I was getting soft.

Forissa is constantly pulling at her armor as they walk, determined to find some way to make the infernal thing comfortable. Meanwhile, she finds she needs to hustle in order to match the men's pace - she'll be spent by afternoon at this rate. But there was now way she was going to say anything or fall behind. At least the bend isn't too far of. Maybe Guarin was right about us taking horses, she thinks in chagrin. Forcefulling burying her discomfort, she tries to focus on what is important. "How will we track Myrel or whoever she is with, once we reach the river?" she asks, figuring each of the three have more experience than she does in such things.
