--- TARREN ALONE - BROKE-BACK BEND ---

ooc: River information? Too cold to swim in (hypothermia?) or is it a nice sunny day? Wide, quick torrent of a river, or a liesurely paddle across?]

Tarren hunkers down behind a tree to consider his options. The river flows slower and deeper at Broke-back bend, making it a popular swimming place. But swimming for most means splashing around on the sasndbanks that line the bend. A couple of kids have swum the width of the river. But its a feat that marks one out as a bit of a daredevil. No-ne has ever done it fully clothed and carrying a bundle of gear. The river itself is more than 50 yards across at this point.

There aren't any other crossing points within a couple of miles of where Tarren is now. He could back track to the village and see if he could steal a boat and try cross the river himself that way.

Meanwhile the fishermen remain hunkered down besides their boats as they await the arrival of Lumin and his party.

Forissa figures the forester will have thing under control regarding tracking Myrel. Meanwhile, she fixes her gaze striaght ahead and pushes on until the group reaches Broke-back Bend.

At a loss now, Tarren begins to wonder if he's really equipped to deal with this mission. The river looks a lot wider now that he's standing next to it and actually looking across. Going back to the village yet again will waste even more time, and it could be hours to find a good crossing point.

Perhaps if he weren't carrying all the gear he could make it across, but then he'd be naked and wet on the other side. The fishermen are guarding their boats too closely for any help there. . . perhaps something makeshift.

[sblock=ooc]How heavily wooded is the area? I'm thinking a few dead branches lashed together with the rope to make a small raft, not for Tarren, but big enough for his gear and clothes so he could push it across with him while he swam.[/sblock]

--- CROSSING THE MANORS - LUMIN'S PARTY ---

The route to Broke-back bend takes the party across the stream and through Feron village. From there they take the road to Hasebe.

[sblock=ooc]Tarren has about 15 minutes head start on you guys, so I will just put you on hold for a bit.[/sblock]

--- BROKE-BACK BEND - TARREN ALONE ---

There is plently of wood around, although finding something suitable, as well as something to lash it together with would be a little more challenging.

[sblock=ooc]Sustained Routine Craft task. Each increment is five minutes. As it is an unskilled task, you require a 1 to succeed. As you are looking to create something that works rather than is attractive, you can use Reasoning rather than creativity. So, you get four dice and need two 1's. The first roll represents five minutes of effort.

For example: Tarren Crafting (1d10=5, 1d10=9, 1d10=10, 1d10=9). In this case, Tarren make no headway after five minutes of effort. If he wanted to continue to try and make a raft, roll another 4 dice.

You can choose to make it a Prostrated task - in exchance for 1 point of fatigue, you can add 1D to Tarren's attempt.[/sblock]

Sifting through the forest, Tarren comes up with various pieces of wood, but between his impatience and attempts to stay hidden, all he ends up with is a worthless pile of sticks. He leans heavily against a tree and wonders what happens next.

Fifteen minutes past. . .

[sblock=failure]

It's a conspiracy I tell you. 12 dice should have rolled at least one one. . . or at least not three 10's.

--- NEAR BROKE-BACK BEND - TARREN ALONE ---

As Tarren throws down the wood in disgust, he hears voices approaching the sandbar. A moment later five people emerge from the trees about 100 feet from where Tarren crouches in the bushes. They must have cut down from the road to Hasebe. Leading is Mosa, followed by Lumin, Sarin, Forissa and Guarin.

The fishermen rise to their feet as their the party from the manor arrives.

[sblock=ooc]Yes, those are some crappy rolls :D [/sblock]

Guarin glares at the fishermen, as though it is their fault that he had to walk instead of riding a horse like a proper knight should. After a good look at the river and the small boats, he takes off his breastplate and chainmail, muttering a few choice curses under his breath.

"Now, cousin, you want these folk willing to fetch us back from wherever that take us, don't you?" Forissa says quietly, with a slight smile. Truthfully, she's happy they arrived, and sees the fishermen's boats as a wonderful alternative to continued walking.

Tarren curses silently to himself as he realizes that he has now wasted enough time for the search party to get ahead of him anyways. He looks over the two of them and tries to see if there is any way to sneak into the boats. . . but, seeing none, he is almost ready to give up and head home.

An image of Myrel lying in some far off spot of forest with a broken leg flashes into his mind as he turns to go. It stops him cold in his tracks and he realizes that the time has come to do something TRULY unpleasant.

Swallowing his pride, he steps out from behind the tree and clears his throat.

"I . . . I need you to give me passage across the river. Please."
