D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

Aridha glances at Dent.

"We'll be able to track them. Moving with a captive is very hard to hide. It will slow them down as well. Unless this prophet is very close, we should be able to overtake them."

"What we can't do right now is expect to beat them if there's much of a guard."

Tolan is the opposite of Dent's frenetic pacing, standing still in silent contemplation as he weighs options in his mind. He shakes his head slowly.

"We are in no condition to be hunting the unknown. I understand your concerns for the Knight Captain, but this letter leaves us with more questions than it answers.

Why is it here, and not yet sent? If the Knight Captain were being delivered somewhere, surely the letter would go with him - or be sent before him. He may yet be in these mines with the 'others' mentioned.

We cannot rush forward, we must be methodical. This monastery hides yet more secrets from us, we must finish here. But rest perhaps must come before all. If we end up dead or captured, we have served no-one."

The usually taciturn Dent continued his gimpy circuit back and forth across the room. He glanced at Aridha, nodded curtly, then eyed Tolan. "You imply you also could do with a rest. Fine. A fighting man admits when he needs a breather; the smart combatant knows his limits. I'm hurt, I know it, and could do with binding up my wounds. If we're to rest, let us find a place and get to it. The wait's interminable enough as is."

[sblock=OOC]Best I can tell, most of us seem to favor a long rest so we can hit 5th level. Only FF and I seemed to favor short rest (if I forgot anyone in the short rest category or misstated anyone's vote, pipe up please). To clarify my vote for short rest, for me it boils down to Dent's Oath of Vengeance. The Oath is a constraint on his being a paladin, and the language for Oath of Vengeance reads, in part, "By Any Means Necessary. My qualms can't get in the way of exterminating my foes." Here, Dent's qualm is returning to combat knowing he's severely injured and without magical resource. By my reckoning, if I want him to retain his paladin-ness, he needs to go after the KC regardless of being at 10/44 hp, having no healing, no spellcasting, and being out of paladin divine smites and channel divinity uses.

That said, Wendy the Player is happy to do whatever the group wants. Long rest, short rest, no rest, whatevah. :) [/sblock]

[sblock]My preference is also for a short rest, but it's for minor narrative reasons, and I fully understand the practical desire for a long one. Either way, Carradoc is happy.[/sblock]

(OOC - Short rest noted... Wildshapes recovered, no other change.)

"Lets release the ones captive here before giving chase," suggests Aridha. "It won't take much longer, and it means they won't be killed or die from neglect. Even if you care nothing for their lives..." she doesn't address the 'you' to anyone in particular, "...they may be useful sources of information and reward once they return."

OOC: Spending last HD: [roll0]

Sigh... for fewer hit points than I had before the short rest. Oh well... 20/39 Hit Points

Damien felt somewhat refreshed, but knew he was nearing his limit. It was going to take some recuperation to get back up to his fighting prime.

"I think we need to grab someone from this delegation. Do we even know how large the group was?" the warlock asked.

Tolan shakes his head at Aridha's suggestion.

"I do not want them alerting reinforcements or setting up traps for our return. If we should fall, whoever defeats us will likely return here to check on the Abbess. The prisoner will be safe enough."

He hauls himself to his feet once more, strapping on his shield and drawing his blade.

"I suggest we clear out whatever remains above before proceeding down any of the stairs. Let us leave nothing behind us."
