"That could work to our advantage," Maighan notes. "If we use it to lure them into an ambush."

"That could work to our advantage," Maighan notes. "If we use it to lure them into an ambush."

She glances at Thaliss. "Shall we return with our prize?"

Thaliss telepathically replies to Maighan, with Carradoc and Tolan also being able to "hear" I don't think we want to get into the business of monster-slaying in this valley. Killing this beast in exchange of a ring and some goodwill in the tower is in our advantage. Continuing the hunt for the mate and the cubs only puts us in unnecessary danger

"Another wizard. A female. Elf. Aided by the crooked talon tribe. Came to the valley. Spoke through the minds. Wished for us to serve, but like the talons, she follows false gods. Deceivers."

He gestures towards Tolan. "We will make use of it. Hunting has been scarce of late. Poachers on our lands make things hard. You may wish to lose the scent of the matriarch. The male or its pups may try to follow it."

Verbally, Thaliss addresses Aar somewhat formally "Thank you Aak, for the advice regarding the scent." Turning to Tolan, he adds "My friend, please allow me". Suddently, small whirlwinds appear first around the barbarian's sword, then around his body, and cleans him thoroughly. The beast's head is also thoroughly cleaned, to minimize its scent.

Looking back at Aak, Thaliss adds "Aak, will you allow me to use the same magics on you and your brethren to clean them of the beast's scent. This will reduce the risk that you will be tracked and put in danger. As I do this, can you tell me more about this false god, the elf, and the broken talon clan."

OOC: cast prestigitation on Tolan until he is clean. Same for the beast's head. Assuming Aak agrees, cast prestigitation on his kin until they are clean. This process should take several minutes (1 round per 1 ft cube of cleaning) and should give us plenty of time to chat, show them that we don't have bad intentions, and learn more.

Thaliss will also periodically cast guidance

Aak seems quite pleased with Thaliss grooming procedure and is very forthcoming. He even coos and crows in a delighted sort of birdy way.

Savra seems on edge. "This is so confusing."

Within some time Aak explains the basics of his previous encounter... "The Broken Talons are less than half the size of my people, though they too are feathered and intelligent. They are usually as black as night, and they hunt in large packs with poison and ambushes. We have been friendly in my great great great grandmother's time. Many moons ago, they had a new shaman. The shaman explored the dark caverns in the northern edge of the valley and came back with news of a new wind god. We know very little about this wind god, but when our own matriarch explored that cavern she came back horrified at what she had found."

"It seems that the wizardess was seeking this same cavern. She attempted to coerce my people with promises of glittering shiny trinkets to join her. Many of our young wanted to go with the woman for baubles. My mother, the matriarch, consulted the ancestors and they did not bless this journey. When we objected, we were attacked. First by the talons. Later by men in cloaks riding large birds. They took many of our elders and children while our adults hunted and gathered. We have seen them from time to time, decorated with the very feathers of my peoples young and old."

Savra seems on edge. "This is so confusing."

Telepathically to her and his companions, Thaliss says Thank you for your self control Savra. You can see that Aak only wants to feed his people, and could have attacked us without warning if he had wanted to.Lets listen to him.

During the discussion with Aak, Thaliss asks him to describe the giant birds (are they giant vultures), and asks him if these types of birds are common in the area. He also asks if he knows more about the nature of this false god.
Also, when one of the Aaracokra coos in pleasure, Thaliss bows magnanimously in a practiced manner typical of one of noble descent.
Thaliss also expresses pity, disgust and his condolences when Aak says their enemies were wearing the feathers of his kin.

Addressing Savra but for all tho hear "Savra, it is obvious to me that the black talons are your enemies, not these folks. Now you will know, and should tell the others in the Tower."

Once this is done, Thaliss shakes Aak's hand and formally bids him goodbye, as a friend, hand heads towards Savra's mount to go back to the tower.

Shall we? he telepathically says to the others.
