D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

A tumbleweed does what it does down the road and Tolan seems to disappear behind it, leaving his mount and a small instruction booklet.

The constable tips his hat and manacles the courier. "I don't know what to make of all this, but I'm sure we can get it sorted out in the mornin."

One of the towns inns should be open for an early meal, if people want to grab a bite to eat.

A horse named Ed stares on, nonplussed.

"I haven't seen anyone named Tolan," Maighan says to Dent. "I do recall reading a little of him in Aridha's reports. She seemed to know him...perhaps he elected to depart with her?"

The elf shrugged at that and went to the door. She paused and looked back, first at Dent, then at the others.

"I don't know about the rest of you, but a moment to sit and enjoy a meal sounds good to me."

Carradoc steps up to Dent, and considers offering his hand to them. Both are tucked in his armpits to keep them warm though, and he doesn't release them. He can see his breath as he exhales, ad this that it's an unusual time of year for such cold.

"Lieutenant," Carradoc nods, knowing he uses Dent's former rank. "It's been a while. Buy you some eggs?" Carradoc points with his chin down the road to an open tavern that he thinks might serve breakfast. "Tie to catch up?"

The answering grin was broad. "Eggs are good." The group set off to Carradoc's tavern. Dent, who was hungry after fisticuffs with the brigand outside the jail, set upon a plate of farm eggs, blood sausages, tomato slices, and a thick heel of buttered bread. He eschewed coffee for ale, and belched with vigor. "So. Where are we off to?" The lilt to Dent's tone softly promised menace.

"We have a lead on the cult worshiping air," Maighan replied. Her own plate consisted of a steaming stew that had a meaty smell, and a little bed of leafy greens that some vegetables perched atop. She ate one spoonful at a time, and while she watched Dent's antics closely, her face betrayed nothing of what she thought of it.

"The man we turned over to the constable gave us a substantial amount of information in exchange for his life, though I rather think he hoped to use it to bait us into a difficult position more than to save his skin."

OOC: OK by me, CS.

Dent looked over at Maighan and listened for long moments. He didn't respond at first, but appeared instead to be mulling the druid's words. After swallowing the last mouthful of ale, Dent frowned. "So the plan is, what, return to the Spire and . . . .?" He waited for someone to fill in the blank.

OOC: Apologies for the silence, last week was busier than expected.
One in game note: Maighan knows Tolan, since Tolan was part of the fight with the courier (remember, he was glued in place by her). I'll assume that he left telling us that he needed some introspection and meditation, and left the flying mount with us.

Thaliss was glad to see the hulking paladin. Although Tolan was a capable warrior, the elf's constant silence left him uncomfortable. Dent had much in common with him, being a fellow half-elf and one that could hold a conversation. Indeed, the evenings around the camp-fire while travelling would be much more interesting.

"So the plan is, what, return to the Spire and . . . .?" He waited for someone to fill in the blank.

Returning from his daydreaming and to the situation at hand, Thaliss answers the paladin, telepathically of course, with Maighan and Carradoc also being included We have a queen to hunt, or at least parlay with, as it seems she has an offer for us. The spire can wait afterwards, although I prefer it as a stronghold to the riverkeep. Let us head to the inn to catch up, rest, and return to our hunt!

Taliss recounts everything to Dent (OOC: happy catching up CB ;-) , and makes a point of explaining that the group will be facing feral Aarakocra, among other threats. It will be worthwhile for them to bring back trophies from the black Aarakocra, should the group wish to take the spire and ally themselves with the valley Aarokocra.

OOC: So the plan is for a long rest, and then to the cave the courier showed us the entrance to. I'm fine with just fast forwarding to that point, jut let us know how much the night + meals cost Creamsteak

OOC: 5 silver a person.

After a long rest the party makes flight towards Knifepoint Gully in the Sighing Valley. Their route is uncontested.

A narrow fissure in the canyon wall leads through a gully choked with pale brush and shrubs. A swift breeze passes through the fissure. At the end, a dark, jagged crevice awaits.

As the party approaches the cavern they notice and are noticed by three monks. They seem less than friendly. The party acts first.
