D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

Carradoc thinks of those times he would ambush travellers on the road while wearing the form of a bugbear. He does not think it prudent to volunteer this tactic at this time, and so continues finishing up his notes.

"Anyone have some rope that I could carry for them?" he asks.

[sblock=Damien]The notes are mostly mundane records, but there is a record of the payment received when the caravan passed here. "The mote, dwemer books." Apparently a trade took place right after, "Exchange of information with the Howling Hatred. They plan to target the black earth with the caravan. They told us to expect an attack from the Eternal Flame. The prophet provides me with protection."[/sblock]

Damien whistled softly, "Hey now, would you look at this?"

The warlock handed the note around the group. "So, it looks like there are four groups here? Black Stone, Howling Hatred, Eternal Flame, and the Crashing Wave. I'm sure I'm not the only one who notices a pattern there?" Glancing over to Aridha, he finished, "Sounds like you were right, lots of scheming and backstabbing going on."

EXCUSE ME?!?

Tolan nods thoughtfully as he passes around the note.

"Four groups. It seems they are at once allied and at each others' throats. It should aid us in breaking them apart as we devour each in turn. I don't know about you all, but between the monastery attacking the caravan, these pirates profiting off it and the spire having their own hand in it. I think we will come to blows with each before we find the truth of what has happened to the remaining prisoners. This 'Eternal Flame' is the only one who has not yet shown their hand, but I will not be surprised to find their fingers in the pot as well."

He gathers up his equipment and looks around the room.

"So Drosnin is next, then."

OOC: I thought we had a full map of the keep earlier in the thread, from when we passed through in daylight, but I cannot find it.

The courtyard is dead quiet in the morning. The morning fog is thick and the only sound is the various insects beyond the keep walls. You can barely see more than 10 feet in any direction particularly clearly. Still, two torch lights are visible at the water-gate. The chain appears to be in place. Stone stairs lead to the north wall from the exit of the main hall. Just across from you, the doors to the building Tom indicated was the "chapel".

Dent unsheathed his steel before exiting the room they'd quartered in overnight. He looked around and, not seeing anyone, silently crossed the courtyard through the fog. He made directly for the door the chapel, and moved to open it.

That night, Thaliss dreamed strange yet faintly familiar dreams. He heard the same voice that had been present only a few years ago, when the first dark book appeared to him. The voice spoke to him, in its unintelligible and alien way. He was taken to distant realms across the stars, and was shown words of power, a ritual that was burned into his mind.

Upon waking, a book was left for him, materializing before his very eyes.
Wasting no time, Thaliss inspected the tome, and by simply getting close to it, he understood more in the way of the arcane. He also felt more powerful, with new spells he was eager to experiment with.

Carradoc doesn't want to leave, so excited does he seem about his book. To those noticing, he's rereading the same pages, flipping back and forth between diagrams and scrawl. Still when the others are ready to move, he reluctantly stows the book and falls i line behind the others.
