D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

Tolan nods at Carradoc's explanation as if it were something that wasn't already know. He supposes new or useful information was too much to hope for. He gestures around at the abandoned wagons.

"This is the caravan. There was a battle here involving members of the caravan, an significant number of humanoids (bugbears, possibly others) and representatives of the Sacred Stone Monastery located southwest of here. A semi-reliable witness reports seeing members of the Monastery transporting a number of prisoners matching the description of the delagates. They were ferried across the river with the assistance of the inhabitants of Riverguard Keep. Those inhabitants appears to be a collection of thugs and pirates attempting to give themselves the veneer of legitimacy, but their boss is offering a reward for Adventurer's Guild members. Lastly, further west, another altercation broke out, killing two delegates, one member of the Monastery, and what appears to be a member of this Spire order.

Both the Riverguard and the Feathergales have now launched attacks upon us, and as they say, 'If they're trying to kill you, you're doing something right.' I think we can safely assume these two groups are at least allied with the Sacred Stone, and were quite possibly involved with the original attack. There are still prisoners unaccounted for, along with the 'Mote' mentioned in the posting, but now we have three points to strike at."

He ticks off the points on his fingers.

"The Riverguard Keep may have received the mote as payment.
The Sacred Stone Monastery may have living prisoners.
The Feathergale Society is the most immediate threat."

This time, Dent's response was anything but cautious; swift and forceful words came out the Lieutenant's mouth.
"The monastery gets our priority, with a pit stop at Rivergard along the way. If they took living captives from the caravan, then there's a chance those captives are either at Rivergard or the monastery." Dent didn't offer his rationale for prizing people over mote.

Having observed the interaction for a few seconds, Damien looked around and finally spoke up, "Six against how many?" Pausing as he left the question hanging in the air, the warlock continued after a bear. "Right, we have no idea. Of note, the bodies we found of the second altercation Tolan mentioned, which included members of the caravan, were to the west of Sacred Stone Monastery, closer to Red Larch than Rivergard Keep, as if they had continued on. It's possible there are no captives in the Monastery. If we are to attempt an assault on these strongholds, infiltration may be our best option. We have something of an invitation to Feathergale Spire, depending on whether that knight remembers us. Disguises may help."

Dent grit his teeth. He forced himself to remember the need to not bark like a sergeant. "You tell me how many. Evidently, you lot were there recently. If we've methods of infiltration at our disposal, then sheer numbers matter less. I'm not interested in a fight. I want the Knight Captain of Mirabar."

"We passed through Rivergard Keep and probably would not be welcome back there. It was only after we had passed through that we learned the chap in charge had put a bounty on Adventurer's Guild members." Damien paused and looked around at the group, as if doing simple arithmetic. He sighed whimsically and shook his head. "We don't have any idea about the Spire or the Monastery, never really got close to either one."

Aridha smirked. Something about the 'Dent' man's attitude irritated her. Seeing him out of sorts was satisfying.

"Interested or not, fights are what you'll have. We may be able to infiltrate the Keep, as we know more of it and who's in it...but we won't be able to sneak more than a few in. Enough, perhaps, to open the gate if we take them by surprise and let the rest in."

She nodded. "They are the weak point. We should kill them first and see what they can teach us about the rest."

"Well, we do have access to the boat, assuming it is still there." Damien replied, already scheming. "We could impersonate Shoalar and his crew. That might get us in the door. We could even hide the rest in the hold." Looking around at the rest of the group, he added, "Although we may have to mention that Pyke met an unfortunate end."

As it should be!!!

"We could even use our badges as proof we had killed, uh, us."

Dent shrugged, unsurprised. That was the problem with working outside the confines of the unit; too much freedom of personality and not enough discipline. He shot Carradoc an irritated glance, as if to say you-drug-us-into-this. "Entree by stealth or by subterfuge, matters not. Dent smirked at the word subterfuge, leaving the others to work out his meaning.

The lieutenant folded himself in bow of mock knightly courtesy to Aridha. "A compromise, then, lady?" Dark eyes held her. "A jaunt to the Feathergale Society, then Rivergard and the monastery for afters?" He made the prospect of battle sound like a chocolate torte finish to a banquet.

OOC: Dent has the Bad Reputation trait. It's possible he could get everyone into Rivergard by rouse (a bad boy brigand knight force marching a group of prisoners).

Dent stood up and wiped his left hand free of Thaliss's blood. The fresh red smears on his soldier's breeches mingled with smudges of dirt and grime acquired from overland travel. Dent wasn't clean, but he didn't seem to mind. He resumed his silent assessment of the new group, lingering on each one's arms and armor.

Feeling the searing pain, Thaliss was startled at first but clearly saw that his wounds were healing. "Thank you for your generosity, Lieutenant. Please allow me to return the favor as I can." Thaliss mumbles a few words, and Dent feels his clothes flutter as small whirlwinds remove the dirt and grime from them.

OOC: casting of prestigitation (you instantaneously clean an object no larger than 1 cubic foot). This process continues until the soldier is completely clean. Thaliss will only use 1 HD to heal (see post 174), so he will be have received 5hp from the paladin, and 6 from his HD (2/3 HD left). He is now at 23/26 HP

"I agree with this plan. I also want to ensure Grimjaw won't be a threat anymore to our brothers in arms".
