D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

OOC: surprise round

As the figure descends the staircase, Carradoc decides the jig is up. his hand reaches to the guard beside him and he says a word, "Nighty-night", and with a wave of his hand hopes to knock out the nearest opponent immediately.

Assuming that works, he is going to move, trying to get the high-ground on the stairs that Grimmjaw is descending.

OOC:
I'm assuming he's burned a 1st-level slot for Mage armour (upthread I indicated this was a regular practice) and so has AC 17). And, with a long rest, is otherwise full.

Action: cast Sleep, centred on P9 where Carradoc stands. Mooks within range are O10, S10, and R7 (possibly S6), but O10 is closest (and so all things being equal is hit first?). That's the hope, at least. It affects 5d8 hp, starting with the lowest hp total. [roll0].

Move, if O10 is asleep (and won't have an opportunity attack), will be P10, P11, O11, O12 (penalized for movement, as he avoids P12. If there's still some move, he'll get out of range (N12) -- that's his intention next round, perhaps using the Disengage action if needed to avoid an opportunity attack.

Carradoc wants the high ground, so that if he's to be within sights of Grimmjaw, it isolates Grimmjaw from everyone else.

As the plan arrived at its inevitable discovery, Damien cackled and darted forward. "Focus on Grimjaw!" he yelled, still in Shoalar's voice. Drawing his dagger with his left hand while on the move, the warlock sought to sow even further confusion and conjured a sphere of deepest darkness centered on the dagger. Being able to see in the magical darkness just fine, he situated himself between Urshnora and the female Reaver.

OOC: Item Interaction: Draw Dagger
Move: O6
Action: Cast Darkness centered on Damien's dagger. Should encompass Ushnora (P5), the female Reaver (O7), Carrodoc (P9 - If he is still there), and one other Reaver (R7).

Carradoc: S10 falls unconscious suddenly. The Reaver at O10 does not. Do you still want to move? I don't believe they can actually take the opportunity attack when surprised. Also acrobatics DC 10 to get up the stairs from Grimmjaw without going through his space.

OOC: Note that if they're surprised, they can't take reactions. Just remember that Urshnora and Grimjaw are not surprised, so they can use their Reactions.

OOC: Yes. I think there are no reactions if you are surprised, which means no opportunity attacks. I'll see if that's true -- trying to move to O12 or (better) N12.

[sblock=preferences]do you prefer the OOC text for OOC comments, or the shlock text, like this?[/sblock]

EDIT: Also, sorry- I missed the bit about the acrobatics check. Here you go: Acrobatics [roll]1d20+6[/roll].

OOC: The ooc block is fine unless there's some reason it should be concealed.

Darkness fills half the room around Damien. Carradoc moves quickly up the stairwell, positioning himself near the balcony.

Thaliss/Dent/Aridha
Cult of the Crashing Wave

OOC: Appears I still had Carradoc's token marked.

Dent cursed when the area in front of him went dark. "Harpy's hogtits." He couldn't see through the darkness, couldn't tell where Damien or the blue-skinned woman were, had lost sight completely of two of the reavers, and that was no good. He moved away from the darkened area by instinct, suspicious of it. Dent looked up and spied what must surely be Grimjaw standing on the stairs to the south. He drew his blade, pointed it at the boar-man, and boomed a curse of denunciation. "Futue te ipsum!"

OOC: Move: From T7 to R11. This assumes it is double movement to pass by Aridha, but is not double movement to step over the sleeping mook in S10.

Action: Channel Divinity (Abjure Enemy) at Grimjaw, Wisdom saving throw DC 14. See PHB 88. [sblock=Abjure Enemy]As an action, you speak a prayer of denunciation using Channel Divinity; choose one creature within 60' of you [Grimjaw] that you can see, that creature must make a Wisdom saving throw unless it is immune to being frightened (fiends and undead have disadvantage on this saving throw), on a failed save the creature is frightened for 1 minute or until it takes any damage. On a failed save, the creature is frightened for 1 minute or until it takes any damage. While frightened, the creature's speed is 0, and it can't benefit from any bonus to its speed. On a successful save, the creature's speed is halved for 1 minute or until the creature takes any damage.[/sblock]

Reaction: Dent will use Fighting Style (Protection) on any ally who steps up and stands within 5' of Dent this round to impose disadvantage on an attack made on that ally by a creature Dent can see.

Given the sudden consternation of combat, it would be very forgivable not to notice the horse that had come with Shoalar and the others suddenly rear in panic and bolt! Someone who knew horses, and who had time to think about it, might wonder why the horse would bolt INTO the magic darkness. But in the time it took to wonder that, it was already too late.

Aridha plunged into the supernatural gloom and immediately resumed her elf shape, but only for a moment. An instant later she was reshaping again...into something far worse than a horse, if almost as large.

A giant wolf spider had good enough eyes, but they didn't depend on them. Up close, they could feel vibrations in the air through incredibly sensitive hairs all over their body. It was an odd, alien sense...like being able to touch something without actually touching it. But it gave her everything she needed to strike at the man in the dark as if she could see.

(Aridha moves to R8 as a horse, unwildshapes, then wildshapes into a Giant Spider. Then she finishes her move to Q7 as a spider, since she can then detect the enemy there. [roll0] ([roll1] with advantage) to hit for [roll2] damage, and on a hit the victim must succeed a DC 11 Constitution save or take an additional [roll3] poison damage. Aridha gains advantage in melee against targets in the darkness who cannot see, due to a giant spider's 10' blindsight ability.)

Aridha's Current AC: 14 (foes that cannot see her are at disadvantage to hit her)
Form HP: 26
