OOC: round 2 = first round after surprise, yes? Moving to half-cover(?) on the balcony [=M10, on high
?], and then firing Chill Touch.

Carradoc continues up the stairs to the balcony where Grimlock had been standing not moments before, and fired an icy beam, spreading out like a gripping hand, at the soldier standing at O10.

[roll0]. If successful [roll1] necrotic damage, no healing.

Air rustled perceptibly along Aridha's body, painting a picture of movements, like abstract streaks on canvas. Three standing near each other, by the sheltering darkness they had summoned. Perhaps they'd believed themselves to be the worst things that could be found in the shadows of the world.

They would learn differently.

She skittered forward, positioning herself within easy reach of all three. Then lunged from the gloom at the blue-skinned woman with terrible jointed legs and palps with their venom-tipped barbs! As fast as the attack happened, it was over...the spider sinking back into the darkness like a thing born to it.

(Move to R6, attack woman)

[roll0] (advantage: [roll1]) to hit for [roll2] piercing damage, plus [roll3] poison damage (1/2 on successful DC11 Constitution Save).

Aridha attack viciously wounds and poisons Urushnora, but not without recourse. Aridha is struck back by 15 points of cold damage from the blue-skinned woman's protective barrier.

The reaver nearest Damien moves away, avoiding his attack even if by accident. She gets up into flanking against Tolan. The attack is a critical strike. The blade deals extra damage to targets without armor, making the cut deeper, but Tolan's resistance reduces the damage to only 9 points. Luck seems to be on her side.

The reaver in the darkness attacks Tolan.
OOC: If I am understanding this correctly, the Reaver cannot see Tolan so it has disadvantage, but Tolan cannot see the Reaver so it has advantage, thus negating each other and rendering this a normal attack.
The attack is a hit, but once again thanks to Tolan's resistance he only takes two points of damage.

The last reaver in melee range of Tolan attacks with flanking but does not hit.

The remaining conscious Reaver makes an attack against Thaliss space with disadvantage caused by the illusion. The attack definitely misses, but interracting with the illusion now renders it moot against that Reaver.
OOC: If I understand that all correctly.

Four more reavers arrive on the scene from room K20. Two of which have enough movement to get adjacent to Carradoc. They attack, but both miss their marks significantly.

Ushnora knows what she must do, but the presence of the hidden beast in the shadows makes that very difficult. She calls out, "Servants of Olhydra, clear a path for me!" She uses disengage to make it to the top of the staircase without provoking from the deadly spider in the shadows.

Grimmjaw continues to contemplate deeply his remorse and how his personality has changed since his curse took hold.

OOC: so much for cover

Carradoc, seeing the large number of opponents suddenly filing into the balcony, gracefully rolls over the railing and lets himself down.

OOC: I realize this might just be falling 10' [to N10], in which case [roll0] damage, but perhaps an Acrobatics roll might mitigate this. If so, here we go [roll1].

If he takes no damage, and he's used his action, he's on his feet and ducks under the balcony moving North (M9, M8, M7, M6, M5) (into the darkness).

If he does take damage, he's prone, and it costs 15' move to stand. He will cast chill touch (against Q10). He will then use the remainder of his move to duck under the balcony, and move as far as he can South (M11, M12).

either way, he'll be out of sight of anyone coming down the stairs, I think.

Chill touch: [roll2], if successful [roll3] necrotic.

[sblock=initiative]One observation of the unified initiatives: it's easy for us (and them) to get out of each other's ways. Had we all had separate initiatives, and had blue woman been higher than the guy on the balcony who missed me, I would have tried to shove him to make him prone, and may have stayed up there, so that she couldn't get at me. One result is not better than the other, but I did change my mind on my gut response based on the rule. I'm also not sure it's stopping gthe if/thenning; sorry if it's annoying. :D Trying to cover eventualities.[/sblock]

OOC: I'll allow the acrobatics, and consider that a success. So your preferred action is to take cover in the darkness without the chilled touch?

Carradoc dives out of the way of the fight above. I am assuming you are using disengage to not provoke for leaving the reach of the two reavers? Is that understanding correct?

[sblock=Initiatives]I'll save my own person review for after at least this first combat is concluded. We can change back if it isn't working, but this combat at the least will finish with testing this.[/sblock]

OOC: hah -- if it's okay to retroactively disengage, then yes please; but I didn't say it, and I'm prepared to take the opportunity attack(s).

Dent stuck fast by Thaliss's side, giving the mage protective cover from Dent's shieldwork. The knight wove forward five feet, ending up back in the square he'd previously vacated. He sliced with his longsword at the reaver in front of Thaliss.

OOC: Move: From S11 to R11.

Action: [roll0] for [roll1]

Reaction: Dent will use Fighting Style (Protection) to protect Thaliss -- disadvantage on an attack made on Thaliss by a creature Dent can see.
