D&D 5E [IC] Creamsteak's Princes of Elemental Evil

"So the other place was dedicated to water," Aridha muses as she prowls around, looking more closely at the statues. "They feared an attack by those dedicated to fire. And here is earth."

She looks at the others and goes over to rejoin them.

On seeing the soldiers emerge, and the statue fall, she holds her tongue and simply stands ready to fight if need be.

Tolan turns back from the crashing noise to find himself face to face with the inhabitants of the monastery. They were involved, he knew they were involved, but still he hesitated to jump directly to killing them. He frowns slightly, and decides to throw all pretense away. He unslings his shield from his back and holds it and his sword loosely in his hand as he watches them warily.

"We are seeking the Mirabese delegation. We know your men were present at the ambush. We know you took prisoners. We have come for them. Release them to us now and there will be no need for further bloodshed."

OOC: Action: dodge
All attacks against Tolan have disadvantage.

HP: 41/41
AC: 19

OOC: I'm inclined to give him the perception check for free on that on his turn, as there's no way to not interact with that, among other reasons. I guess it would still work to provide whoever hits him first with advantage, but I would say he would even get a reaction right after that to notice the illusion the first time in the round. Do you still want to do that?

OOC: I Was indeed going for something akin to a ranged help action. Since we may be able to talk our way of of this, I didn't want to strike first. Please assume that the illusion is like like a velvet curtain around the edge of the square, forming a large bag, to hinder the priest's targeting ability and ability to see incoming attacks.

The priest steps forward and out of the "curtain" that appears in front of him. "You could have knocked. What business do you have with this delegation? We do, in fact, have a few guests here from Mirabar. We protected them from harriers out of Feathergale Spire."

OOC: The priest seems willing to talk if you want to talk.

Dent eyed the priest's robes and underlying armor. He looked the man in the eye, then extended a meaty hand in greeting, his own scale male crinkling audibly with the movement. "Lieutenant Sir Marcus Dent of Mirabar at your service. The Mirabarian Commander has sent me to collect his men and their escort. They're wanted at home." Dent's dark eyes glittered. He pointedly didn't clarify why the Mirabarians were wanted, letting the priest draw his own--hopefully erroneous--assumptions.

OOC: Thaliss and Dent both have proficiency in Deception, Intimidation, and Persuasion. Thaliss's bonus is +7, but Dent's is not far behind at +6. I'll take a crack, since Dent is closer, Thaliss is hiding behind a statue, and Dent sports a Mirabar sigil on his shield that will hopefully bolster the fibbing I'm fixing to have Dent do. Hopefully, Dent's armor (scale male) and demeanor (he's a paladin with a Bad Reputation) help out as well. He'll put on his best glower and try a bit of puffery. I haven't a clue what you'd like me to roll, if anything, Creamsteak, so I'll wing it and will rely on you to tell me if a roll is necessary (hopefully it won't be!).

Damien simply stood there, waiting for combat to break out. They have got to be screwing with us, he thought. No way does someone come into my house and kill my stone demon watch dogs and get away with it. We're practically standing on the bodies of those gargoyles...

Checking his gear, he stifled a yawn.

The priest matches Dent's extended hand. His grip is solid. He looks Dent in the eyes. "My name is Qarbo. I am second-in-command at this monastary, but the abbess doesn't like to deal with visitors. The Knight Captain is a ways below us in study. The stairs are just inside this chamber." He peers past the group and suddenly seems to get nervous. "Would you like to see him? You are welcome to come inside."

OOC: I dunno. *Do* we want to go inside on his invitation? What does Dent think, is Qarbo obfuscating? If we accept the invitation, will he attack or attempt to imprison us?

EDIT: Yeah. Combat's looking likely after that roll.

Tolan grits his teeth at the calm lies with which the priest met his denouncement. His fist tightens on his sword hilt, but he is glad that Dent is present to continue the conversation, as he could not trust himself to do so. The the priest's invitation comes. Walking into an obvious trap again? Jolly probably regrets allowing them so close.

He mutters to himself, "Even the dragon may regret swallowing the tiger."
