Havoc comes to the corpse too. First things first, he wrings the corpses neck causing several dry, cracking sounds.

"I'm not desecrating the corpse! Just making sure it doesn't follow us since it's fairly new.!"

Only then he looks up at the rope and stone, his sailors eyes easily picking the cause of the fall.
"What do you think, a heist at the wrong moment? Or a punishment for which he was ready with the rope which was simply not long enough and he couldn't make it?"
Ooc: please roll for me something appropriate 😀

Havoc touches the stone and 'feels' a vibration of something moving: water. He looks up at the hole above. It seems like a part of the ceiling has given way due to water damage. There are a few stones on the ground to corroborate these findings. The broken stones are jagged and sharp.1 It's pretty obvious that the rope broke from rubbing against the stone. On ships, ropes accidently rubbing together wear down with catastrophic effect.

Anson turns the key and, right away, the scales right themselves. There is an accompanying loud, grinding noise, like stone sliding against stone that echoes down through the hallways from the direction they came in.

1. I forgot they changed Stonecunning. Yet another mistake regarding the 2024 rules. It's fine, you get the info anyways.

Anson says what he's thinking. "I imagine there's a passage somewhere that opens with this key, perhaps to a secret chamber or treasure room. This poor soul..." (he gestures at the corpse, which he imagines is a tomb robber) "...may have been the one to open it. For now, though, I suggest we proceed, knowing that if we're stuck we can move something with this key."

He tries to remove the key, and if successful he puts it in a pocket.

Benny, with max sitting peacefully on his shoulder nods his agreement. He is eager to light the other beacons.

Before moving out of the brasier’s light, he casts a spell to replenish his celestial vigor.

OOC: cast false life though the fiendish vigor invocation. 12thp is full again
