(IC) Dog Days of Doom!

Havoc really doesn't care about the kitchen just yet and young knight and rum take all his attention for the moment.

neurotic: D20 + 3#havocperception → 4(1 + 3)#Havoc Perception LOL
neurotic: D20#havocreligion → 20(20)#Havoc Religion double LOL

OOC: I didn't roll religion because Havoc isn't trained...but as it turns out, he knows everything about this because at some point in the past, one pirate town had similar happening far away on an island, which is why no one had heard about it before

OOC:
Updated character sheet and the minisheet (above) for level 2, except languages I learned (I get two, I'll choose sometime soon). I added expertise in perception, but that would only have changed the check above from a 7 to a 9, so no biggie.

Anson accepts the advice of the village man, and heads into the tavern, where he sees some of the fellow travellers. "Did we all make it?" he asks of those who had been sharing their names minutes earlier. He looks for the child, Benny, and then sees him, and he sighs with some relief.

"Many were lost there. Has there been speculation about what happened to the sky to cause all of this? I am no astronomer..."

Deirdre wracked her brain upon hearing the man in black robes speak of the Green Death. Ah, Kyuss, she thinks to herself. An obscure, yet abhorrent, god of undeath, rot, and decay. The Wormgod. She then turned to the robed man.

"This Beacon - where is it?"

OOC:
Religion check: 1D20+2 = [13]+2 = 15
Just scraped by!

@Snarf Zagyg your insight reveals that the inkeeper, on top of being concerned about the well being of the people in the inn is very nervous and concerned about something in the kitchen. You got that when he was especially emphatic that no one go in there.

@Neurotic & @Lidgar Kyuss is the god of undead. Was once a human and worshipper of Nerull before he was elevated to demi-godhood.

Havoc knows this because he was on a ship once where they caught a cultist of Kyuss trying to smuggle an undead in the cargo hold. He was forced to walk the plank.
Generally, worshippers of Kyuss believe undeath is the perfect form and hope to achieve it one day. The ideal world is one where there are no living things.

@Lidgar the beacon is a huge lighthouse tower in the centre of town. It's been mentioned several times that the entire valley basks in its glow. It's, literally, why worshippers of Pelor and Weejas pilgrim here. And the reason why people want to bury their dead here. The beacon went out when it was hit by the magical after-effects of the fallen comet. Your character would already know this.

The priest of Wee Jas looks to Deidre. "I speak of the sacred flame of Pelor, empowered by the will of Wee Jas, wise elf. Not some mere smoke signal. THE Beacon that stands vigil in the courtyard of the temple fort. The walking dead despise its holy light.

In the temple there lies the means to relight it. There are two acolytes there who, no doubt, are endeavoring to do so as we speak. But the way lies beneath the temple, in the crypts below which, no doubt, now crawl with those whose sleep has been disturbed. If those two priests entered the crypt to relight the beacon, I fear they will never exit it again...at least not as one of the living."

As the other's speak, Benny's mind seem to travel to some distant realm. There, he sees a creature of light, formless, and sees a smaller light and for some reason, he knows it is Maximilian. There are no words exchanged, but as he returns to reality, he seems more mature, more grown up. With a renewed sense of purpose, he says to himself: "The market then the beacon". Maximilian looks at him and nods but signals to wait for the discussion to unfold.

OOC: Thanks. Deirdre meant how to get to it - she would be aware where it is generally.

After surveying the room and gathering himself, Caer Droea's sense of unease heightens as he continues to think about the innkeeper's admonition regarding the kitchen. He speaks to Deidre in Elvish.

I feel something out of balance. It may be nothing, but stay prepared.

Caer approaches the innkeeper, and allows the ire in his voice to show while the runes on the Blackstaff begin to writhe up and down its length. He speaks firmly to him, ensuring that his companions can hear.

We must make sure that none of the darkness is in this place. All rooms must be cleared- show me the kitchen.
OOC:
Not sure if you want me to roll for it, but I'll do it in case. I'll roll with advantage for atmosphere for activating the staff, but you can take the first roll if you disagree.
Intimidate: 1D20 = [6] = 6
1D20 = [17] = 17

...hope I had advantage.

The innkeeper pipes up,

“The market? Only a fool would go to the market. Last I’d heard, the market was packed with people. If you want to avoid the undead, it’s best to avoid the market If it were me goin’ and, surely it in’t, I’d take the long way ‘round, along the city walls and sneak into the fort’s courtyard by the guard’s gate on the west side.”

Then Someone else retorts,

“Maybe. But you can get weapons at the market. And potions. And all manner of useful things. You’d have your choice of the lot of it!”

Then a third,

“Oh, sure, you’d just take advantage of people’s misfortune and rob them?”

“Every man for himself, I says. They ain’t using’ it anymore!”

“No use for it if you die getting it!”

Then a fourth,

“My uncle owns one of them shops and, god forbid, if he didn’t make it, he’d want people to take it if it would help.”

“Well, we know what yer uncle thinks of you Caspar! It’s no wonder you’d rob ‘im blind!”

Suddenly people are shouting at each other and the inkeeper is trying to calm people down.

The man in the black robes is shaking his head as the two acolytes of Pelor sit in the booth and watch.

Among the chaos that is taking place, the innkeeper is taken off guard by Caer’s subtle approach. A look of panic crosses his face as he looks around to see if anyone heard what Caer said,

He quickly ushers Caer towards the bar, Deidre can follow along.

“No! We can’t go in the kitchen”, he says emphatically in a hushed tone.

He looks around to see if anyone is paying attention but people are arguing and he seems to relent,

“Both the Chef and her husband have turned. I’ve locked them in the kitchen. I don’t want people to panic. Although, I’m not sure what to do when people get hungry, the stairs to the pantry is through the kitchen…”
