Anson encourages everyone to flee through the gate and, to make the point clear, hoists an old grandmotherly woman up off her feet and over his shoulders and carries her across the threshold of the castle walls. Despite being surprised by the turn of events, she doesn't resist. Her frail body is light and you wonder how she even made the long journey.

Deidre casts her spell and retreats back, along with Havoc. Stratus is the last to go. There are others running for the gate but they are too slow and cannot evade the claws of the zombies. Their screams echo over the walls.

A young woman is helping her older father flee and just as they are about about to get snagged by several zombies - one is wearing white pajamas and the other is wearing a fur-lined coat - Caer moves forward and interposes himself between the zombies and last of the fleeing mourners.

The zombies, not caring who it is and craving only that the living should die, swing fists and claws at Caer but narrowly miss.1 Behind him, the gates are almost shut as the woman shepherds her father through.

Meanwhile Max flies down and delivers a blow to the Levinshire. He hisses in pain but then snarls as fire bursts from him, burning the sphinx.2

He then calls down a foul prayer of a dark god.3 Max feels a dark power over him and his vision begins to fade. As it does so, the undead turns to mist and moves away through the horde of undead and among the rocks and grave stones that line the road. 4

Zombies move towards the familiar, jumping up, trying to knock it out of the air.
1. Caer gets attacked twice
zombie attack: 2D20.LOW(1)+3 = [11, 15]+3 = 14
2D20.LOW(1)+3 = [7, 17]+3 = 10

Both miss

2. Max takes 17 fire damage from a retributive strike (a reaction). Save: dc 16 for half damage

3a Then it casts Blindness on Max. Con save DC: 16
both are spells so max gets advantage to make his saves

3b Everyone can make a religion check DC 15 to recognize the god its praying to
Kyuss

4. Then as a bonus action, it becomes a mist and moves away to find cover.

The zombies don't have enough movement to reach max but are making their way towards him.

There is a crowd huddled inside the gate as it gets pushed shut. Just before it closes, Caer appears1. Some people scream in surprise and fear.

"Where do we go now?" says someone.

"I have a cousin here. I'm going there." says a someone else

"If he's not dead" says a third.

To punctuate the statement, you hear a moaning and something move in the shadows amongst the buildings.

Someone starts crying.

Then, in the shadowy twilight of the darkening day, a light appears. Everyone looks over to see the door of a building has opened, the warm lamplight from within is spilling onto the street. It's an Inn or tavern and a balding man pokes his head out of the door and waves at the crowd,

"Quick, in here!"

It doesn't take much convincing as people hurry towards the building.

@Snarf Zagyg in the end, you didn't need to use your teleportation but it's a cool entrance so you can have a free use of it!

If you go to the Inn, you get a short rest and a level! just add your new HP to whatever you have. So, if you were wounded, you will still be so.

Feel free to post and rp a bit. I'm going to post a picture of the tavern and description in a bit.

Having nearly been taken down, Stratus was relieved to hear the healing word of Corellon. Though he was very devoted to the tenants of the religion of his upbringing, the Sky-Father, he was often unfamiliar with the Gods of the smaller folk. He was glad to know nothing of Dark Gods.

He helped who he could, offering his services as a field medic. When he saw others moving toward a building and a man, he followed.

But then Stratus overheard a citizen speaking in awe about a person left outside who had yet to fall from the overwhelming horde. Had they missed someone? Stratus felt ashamed that he'd been so distracted by the chaos. He looked for a ladder or stairs where he could climb up on the gatehouse. A large enough box would do, with his reach...

"Milady you're safe," Anson says to the old woman as he puts her down and lets go. "I am sorry to have troubled you." He looks around the interior, illuminating the gatehouse crowd which is now being led to a thatched building that appears to be a tavern. He attempts to make eye contact, to ensure that those that are through are all, well, not one of those monsters. And he wonders if there is something he can put his hands to to help. Are there only constabulary on the walls? Is a crossbar needed for the gate? Whatever happened, it is not stopping, and he wants to do what he can.

If he sees a task for himself, he will undertake it, calling on others to help, but he won't want to be in the way.

OOC: Havoc wouldn't like to be the only one out, no, but he would support the young knight. If it is hopeless, he would abandon him, but...not like it. On the last map he seemed fine, in good position to retreat, who else is out there? Also, vampire priest? Oh, joy! :D

Havoc looks around, focusing on new moans. If this is something that could penetrate these walls than any dead drunk or sewer rat would get up. There will be cleaning of the walls for a day and night. He sighs heavily.

At least there is a tavern...but these weak landlubbers need to go first. He clenches his fists and stands between them and the city - blocking easy access from nearest alleys.
