(IC) Dog Days of Doom!

OOC: Maximilian cannot attack this round because he is a familiar and Benny already attacked. So non attack actions only are available

Maximilian flies above and distracts the Donny directly above the zombie in front of the knight.

OOC:
Move:20 up at 45 degrees, 15 down 45 degrees line towards the zombie, and five down diagonal towards the east. Max is above the zombie in front of the knight, 5ft off the ground, between the normal zombie and the tree.
Action: help action

OOC:
Sorry, got caught up in Surf 2. Don't ask. I think Caer has to make up for last round. So this is before Steve and Neurotic's last posts?

Caer can feel the shadows that accompany him intensify, reacting to the strength of the energies around him. Just one of the shadow-raised corpses took more than a mighty swing of the Blackstaff to put down. He could feel the energy of a score, or more, close by and countless more around the path. And perhaps some were raised within the walls....
He recognized that the others were trying to help. But Caer knew that the first priority must be to get to safety. He shouted out to the others- We must get to the gates and close them. There are too many.
Still, he saw that Deidre was trying to save the lone knight. Caer knew it was too late for him, but ... best to even the odds. He called to Deidre in Elvish.

The path will be clear for him. But we must leave now and defend the gates.

As he says this, Caer summons the darkest powers of nature through the Blackstaff, causing hideous growths to spring up around the revived corpse behind the beleagued knight. The blackened vines whip around the corpse and the sharpened thorns pierce the flesh, holding fast and dragging it away from the knight.

Caer then moves to the gates' entrance, continuing to survey the situation he has left behind.

OOC:
Action- spell (thorn whip) at Zombie adjacent to knight
Thorn Whip: 1D20+5 = [6]+5 = 11
_: 1D6 = [3] = 3
3 Piercing Damage
Zombie is dragged either NN or NNE (10').

Caer then moves SW, W, W, W (20').

@Kobold Stew Leadership is a success and the crowd gets safely away, except for the very last. See below.

OOC: I don't think I can get to one of the zombies in a single move - at least 3 diagonals there.
You can totally move in and attack. please make a roll. It is for this round anyways.

"If you don't go to that gate right, I'm going to kill you myself!" he threatens. His face is red, his fist is blazing, his saffron cloak adds to his stature and his size. "Move! Now!"
Those in the crowd who were too scared to run stopped looking back at the zombies in fear and, instead, looked wide-eyed at Anson. Their focus instantly moved to the safety of the gates which were almost closed now. Only a few of the slower people were left outside the gate as the horde moved in.

Zombies swarmed in on everyone still outside the gate.

The Knight looked back in surprise as the zombie behind him was thrown back by the thorn whip. As Havoc ran out and attacked the zombie, it gave the young man an opportunity to retreat but stopped short at the gate, waiting for people to get through.

Levinshire looked at Caer with frustration and anger that his final trophy would be taken from him. He lifted his hand and pointed to Caer. With a single action he opened his hand and, as he did so, a spectral hand appeared in front of the Caer. As Levinshire closed his hand, so too did the spectral hand but Caer easily moved out of the way. It cursed and moved away, using trees as cover as it did so. It was obvious, especially to Havoc that it had been severely wounded and was unwilling to push closer to the group who were now organizing the retreat.

Thornwhip succeeds. Knight uses the opening to disengage and flee.

Levinshire targets Caer with a Chill Touch but I crit-failed. He then retreats. Although, you could still hit him with a ranged weapon. he has 3/4 cover.

Zombie attacks Havoc:
zombie attacks: 1D20+3 = [20]+3 = 23
1D8+1 = [7]+1 = 8
Zombie attacks Deidre
1D20+3 = [10]+3 = 13
1D8+1 = [7]+1 = 8 damage
Zombie attacks Stratus
1D20+3 = [17]+3 = 20
1D8+1 = [5]+1 = 6 damage

If you move in now, you will be safe but 4 stragglers left outside the gate will die. (Assuming the zombies hit. They could, actually miss) I've marked them with red dots.

If you hold off the zombies for one round, you can let the 4 people through. Basically, you will have to hold off another attack for one more round. Unless you have another way to help them.

Reminder: please keep a mini-sheet at the top of your post. Although, without it, I have no idea what your HP is so I'm not tempted to pull punches if you're close to dropping. So that's a bright side....I guess...

Anson steps forward, and attempts to grab the old woman who is moving so slowly and physically drag her inside, hoping his example will motivate others to do the same. With his burning fist he attempts to grab the old woman's robes and pull her in, off her feet, and physically carry her inside the gate.

Okay! So Another change in burning hands in addition to 4x the light is it now explicitly doesn't burn others. Anson discovers this as he grabs the woman, who is no doubt screaming.

Grappling: is now a DC 11 save for her (Dex or Str, but she has the option to fail it voluntarily), which if successful means he can carry her. (It doesn't need to be the figure that looks like an old woman, as there is one figure closer, but I'm hoping Anson can take the extra movement.

"Go!" shouted Stratus over his shoulder to the few remaining citizens, then he looked back at Deirdre and gave her a look that they should do the same.

OOC: Stratus will ready to Disengage if Deirdre does the same and get through the gates.

Far too often, Caer has seen the workings of nature. The confidence of the large and proud beast ... only to brought down by a pack of wolves. Nature always wins. As it should. He was about to enter the gate when he felt a pang of ... something. Maybe I don't need to debase myself in that city yet.

Regretting his decision as soon as he made it, Caer strode away from the gate and past the last villager, holding the Blackstaff while calling out to the survivors and his new companions. Get to the gate and close it NOW! Then, facing the approaching zombies, he screamed.

SHADOWS OF DEATH! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Wrapping the Raven's shadows around him, he held readied the Blackstaff to parry the gnashing and rending of the zombies and prepared to hold off them off, listening carefully for the closing of the gates.

OOC:
Caer Droes moves three squares E.
Takes dodge action (skinned as using the Blackstaff to parry) to attract the zombie attacks and give EVERYONE TIME TO GET INSIDE. Hopefully, with the attacks at disadvantage, I can survive a round. Level one is rough.

If everyone goes inside and closes the gate, I can teleport next round as bonus as the gates are almost closed inside the walls so long as they aren't fully closed before I do it.

Maximilian, do what you have to! “Benny telepathically says to his mentor.

The sphynx flies to the levenshire zombie and attacks it from a position where it doesn’t have cover.

OOC: Benny gives his attack to Max
Max, move next to the priest zombie, position is to avoid any cover
Attack: 19
Damage: 14 (9 radiant)

Above the din of screams and moans, Deirdre dimly heard the shouts from Stratus and Caer. She looked around wildly, seeing nothing but a wall of undead closing in on them. While part of her longed for nothing more than to stand and strike down every last one of the foul abominations, she knew better. Caer spoke true - the time was for a tactical retreat. Raising her shield, she pulled back towards the gate alongside Stratus, but not before shouting Corellon's Healing Word at Stratus.

OOC:
Just so I'm tracking correctly, does Havock now have only 1 hp and Stratus has 3 hp left? She uses Healing Word on Havock Stratus as a bonus action and Disengages as her action. She then retreats with Stratus towards the gate.
Healing Word on Stratus: 2D4+3 = [4, 2]+3 = 9
