D&D 5E [IC] hafrogman's Hoard of the Dragon Queen

OOC: It's been less than a minute all told since the attack was launched.
The patrol is currently on the north side, and will move to the east in another minute or so.

OOC: Yes, that was Carad's intention - to hug the south wall of the temple, but the outcomes is pretty much the same either way, so we'll take it from there. :)

Carad leapt over the low wall for the second time that night and dashed to the door.

The lieutenant waited for everyone to enter the building before following inside. "Let's wait on that illusion if we can, how much time before the patrol returns?"

On Morgan's query, Carad's senses retreated from his surroundings and shifted to Scree's while it remained perched on the top of the temple. Not knowing if anyone is hearing him, he shared, "None of the raiders seem to know of our assault. The group with the ram are still going strong at the door. The patrolling group is still maintaining their pace, and will take another minute or so to round the northeast corner of the temple."

Still deaf and blind, Carad reached out his hand, and muttered, "Hunter?" Trusting in his team mate to guide him while he was in state and to shake him out of it when necessary, as was their practice in their scouting missions, Carad kept his senses with Scree to keep watch over the raiders. In his own body, from time to time, he piped up to report on the developments he saw, largely oblivious to his own surroundings.

Venn was there, right behind Hunter and Carad, whistling an common drinking song as he followed the others in. Upon entry he made quick work looking the building up and down. He tapped a beam, kicked the wall and returned to Morgan. When the others looked at him in expectation his simply stared back, an awkward gaze considering his eyes still carried the blue ethereal glow to them.

Finally, stopping his tune and reverting back to a somewhat conscious state, "I think this place would make a great nest. But we should still leave."

"Derrol, Kerrol! I'm so glad you're here!" she said with genuine relief. "Help me to drag the dead bodies inside so the patrol won't see them; the survivors inside can also use their weapons for defense, if it comes to that" She then grabs a small kobod and drags it inside. "please come and help me" she tells her companions.

Once inside, she adds "They're not expecting us, we may prevail in the surprise." She looks at Morgan "I can transform into a bear, but won't be able to heal anybody if I do"

She then moves furniture to act as cover for the survivors that could throws Kobold spears and the weapons they had, and finds a covered spot from where she could shoot a few arrows before potentially shapechanging.

OOC: How many survivors are there? aside from the teenagers, anybody that looks as if they can hold and throw a Kobold spear or a cultist weappon?
Also, who needs healing? Now's the time to tell me because I get a feeling that Jeni will needs to shapechange during this battle, and if she does, she'll remain in bear form (if she can) until we capture a leader and get back to the keep.

As the group filters into the temple and makes it to the main chamber, they find more and more survivors. A quick count reveals about thirty people huddled inside. Derrol and Kerrol seem to be treating the whole affair as a grand adeventure, but most of the adults are locked in terror. Some have small children clutched to them, others are injured, but most look mobile. Most heads are turned to the front doors, and barely look up as the party comes into the room. The doors themeselves are thickly barred, but clearly weren't designed for a siege.

There is one man still standing as he moves around the room, visiting with the families, trying to care for them and tend to their needs. He looks up at motion from the back of the temple, a puzzled expression on his face as he sees the black tide, which gives way to cautious hope.

"Hello ..."

OOC: A few dozen people have taken refuge in the temple. There are some children, some wounded, but mostly able-bodied adults. However, they don't look to be in any mindset to do battle or even defend themselves. Getting them organized, up and moving may be enough of a challenge, but you're welcome to give them whatever orders you like and we'll see what happens.

Jeni - the man is Eadyan Falconmoon, a half-elf and local priest of Chauntea.

Hunter trots over to the front door placing one hand on it and feeling the vibrations as the ram hits.

"Commander," he whispers to Morgan. "This door wont last long, I recommend we form up and get ready to attack when the roving group passes the back door? Even still, they only have the one ram, the back door should hold quite well for a time."

Once inside, Jeni sees that some of her comrades need healing. She proceeds to chant a druidic spell, gives 7 to Carad and 3 to Morgan, and tells them "Take these to heal your injuries". Once this is done, she chants the same spell, and gives 4 berries to Morgan, and 3 to her other companions. She keeps none for herself.

Jeni then notices the half elf, and runs over and hugs him. Seing the people she knew alive in this context made her forget any decorum.

Composing herself, she says "Eadyan, I'm so glad you're alive! This is captain Morgan Cavendish, leader of the Black Tide. We're here to help protect these people, and bring them back to the keep." Lowering her voice so only the half-elf, Morgan and the rest of the black tide that are close enough can hear, she adds "We killed the bandits that tried to burn down the back door, but there are more many more and we need to get these people out of here."

OOC: cast goodberry twice. spells left: level 1: 1/4; level 2: 1/2. 1 shapechange remaining.

Morgan nodded to Eadyan, while popping the berries into her mouth. "Lieutenant actually, not that it matters anymore... We have a very small window of time to get your people out and to the treeline to the south." Recalling Carad's report, she asked, "You know the states of these people... can everyone in the church be in that treeline within three minutes time?"

OOC: Just realized I was at 20/28 HPs. Since time is of the essence and it would take 42 seconds to eat all of the berries she was given, how many can I say she eats during the course of this conversation?

Eadyan looks surprised at Jeni's hug, but returns it gratefully. He turns to face Morgan when introduced, and extends a hand in greeting.

"Lieutenant. I thank you for your assistance. As to getting these people out ...

He looks around at the interior of the sanctuary doubtfully. Just then another boom echoes throughout the chamber ( [roll0] ) and his expression hardens.

"We will do what we must."

He starts turning to his charges, helping a group get themselves up and ready, but Morgan (and the others) can see that one group at a time will not get everyone moving in time. However, during the conversation more and more of the refugees have started paying attention to the group of armed warriors in their midst. Perhaps all they need in a little prodding?

OOC: Unfortunately we're still sort of on combat time as the ram hits every round or so. So it'd take Jeni two rounds to make two castings, so two berries eaten.

Eadyan seems to have the people's trust, but he's not used to military precision. Relying on him to get everyone moving will be a slow process.
