D&D 5E [IC] hafrogman's Hoard of the Dragon Queen

Morgan hopped up on a pew and slammed her shield with the haft of her flail for attention.

"People of Greenest! The Keep still holds and there is a hidden way to enter it. But we need you to move right now and hide in the southern treeline to avoid the patrol wandering outside. If you value your lives, move!"

OOC: Not sure if that is Persuasion or Intimidation, but I believe I am proficient in both.

The stunned crowd takes a moment to react to Morgan's proclamation, then the silence is suddenly punctuated by another thud [roll0] of the ram against the doors, which splinter dramatically ... and then hold. As one, the refugees rise to their feet, the able bodies picking up children and the wounded, then they look uncertainly once more to Morgan, and begin moving.

OOC: Nice roll. You have their attention.

The way I figure it, we just spend a round getting everyone to their feet. In another round, you can have everyone outside the temple. We'll give the refugees a 20' speed (dash 40') due to children and carrying the wounded. So depending on where they're going, 1-2 rounds for the first refugees to make the trees, with the last of the line being a round behind. Down into the creek takes another round say, due to the slope and difficult terrain.

Of course, you don't know how long this door will hold. (Neither do I. Fun, isn't it?)

What will the party members be doing? Is anyone going to guard/escort the refugees? Any preparations you want to make? Where do you want to be? Inside, outside?

Jeni tells Morgan: "I will transform into a bear once we are spotted by the thugs and I have a chance to let a few arrows out. Don't forget to keep taking your berries!"

Jeni then moves over to the dead bandit bodies, and hands weapons to the survivors that seem strong, sturdy, or show a desire to wield them.

OOC: Does it look like Morgan and Hunter could brace the door to keep it from shattering?

Morgan looked to Carad, Venn, and Jeni. "Can you protect their east flank while they flee? Once they're in the treeline, come back. We'll try to brace the door."

The woman stepped up to the splintering door and pushed her shield against the area she best estimated the point of impact being.

OOC: Strength Check? [roll0]

Hunter braces his shield against the splintering door.

"Commander, if they break through I will hold them back until you can get those people out of here," he grins tightly. "Don't worry, I can make it back!"

"Nah, we're in this together, like old times." Morgan said, grimacing, "I put Carad out there because he can make the tough call about leaving and saving the townsfolk if this door doesn't hold."

OOC: Assuming that someone shakes Carad out from his stupor. :)

Upon being shaken, Carad blinked hard a few times as he reoriented himself to his immediate surroundings. Finding a number of berries in his hand, he nodded his thanks silently to Jeni and started popping them in his mouth.

Morgan looked to Carad, Venn, and Jeni. "Can you protect their east flank while they flee? Once they're in the treeline, come back. We'll try to brace the door."

"We'll do our best, Lieutenant," Carad replied. Turning to Jeni and Venn, he continued, "I'll take point. Jeni, can cover the rear? If the raiders catch up, your bear form stands the greatest chance of holding them off. Otherwise, urge them to keep up. Venn, take the left flank." Turning back to Morgan, he add, " We'll be back."

With that, Carad dashed to the south door, pressing his ear against it for a quick check. Making sure the refugees were ready, he pulled the door open a crack to peep out first before opening it fully. In a low voice but in no uncertain terms, he beckoned the refugees, "Let's go."

Nocking an arrow to his bow, he sent to Scree, "Keep a look out here, and let me know if the raiders break through the door or if the roving team round over to the east side."

Venn followed closely behind Carad, keeping his eyes peeled on the left flank. His eyes shone blue in the dim light of the building and seemed to leak that eerie blue mist. Most of the refugees stood well away from him just in case, but he didn't even notice. As soon as he could see the sky again he was glancing upwards, worry crossed his face multiple times...

Jeni nodded her agreement and looked at Morgan for confirmation. She readied her bow and arrow and moved towards the back door.

Working together, the Black tide quickly get the refugees organized and on the move while Hunter and Morgan remain inside. The two guardians hold firm against the door, they aren't certain how much good they're doing while the door still holds, but they'll be able to keep it in place should it fail. Venn and Jeni take up flanking positions while Carad gets the survivors down to the tree line, sliding down into the creek bed. The last of them are hidden away when Scree reports the circling group is on the move, currently coming around the northeast corner.

OOC: Two more slams against the door [roll0] and [roll1] which continues to hold (so many ones). You have probably two more rounds before the circling group gets close enough to the south to (potentially) notice something amiss. Plans, actions, intentions?

The townsfolk are down in the ravine, obscured from view.
